I just happen to have Daryl's 3-Fly book handy. The Ramsey Subtlety is exactly as shown in Step 3, Figure 5, on page 6. The apparently open hand is shown in such a way that it appears empty while holding a finger palmed coin. It's nothing more than that.
I've played with this routine for years but never felt comfortable enough to perform it cleanly in public. |

I just got Lee Asher's Three Stylin a few weeks ago.
Though some will think it takes a bit of practice and dedication, it's worth every penny. I used to play with Daryl's version, but now there is no reason to. Go to http://www.leeasher.com and get Three Stylin. 2 pennies worth Peter

Good day to everyone out there, my name is afshin and I am a new member to the magic Café. Here is a little about myself, I am fairly a new magician and I have a certain attraction towards the art of visual magic precizely in close up.
I have always been drawn to the art and science of coin sleights and a certain fascination for the effect 3- fly. I have posted an attachment of a small video clip, it is silly but I hope some of you enjoy it. I was also wondering does anyone out there know if I can get a coin gimmick exactly like the hoping half except that the 3 peices are silver. In other words a shell in a shell in silver and as exact and precise like the the hoping half. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you kindly. |

Nate Kranzo has his version on his Ouside The Box DVD called "International 3-Fly". It uses 3 different coins and looks like real magic. I think Paul Wilson went a little bonkers about it. Hmmmm. He seems to think everyone steals his stuff. I beleive is "brown" Predator wallet is safe

Good day to everyone and thank you for the warm wellcome. Also I want to specially thank mr Gerardi for his kind remarks, mr Gerardi has actually been my mentor and my teacher, a brilliant man with a very unique and creative approach to everything that I have seen him create and perform. For those of you who have not seen him perform mr Gerardi is the closest thing to making an effect look like real magic and I somtime wonder if he does.
I wanted some hounest advice from any you gentelmen regarding mr Bob Kholer's Ultimate 3 fly. Any of you out there who has purchased his effect or seen it can you please tell me how good is this effect compared to other 3 fly's since I will be most likely by his effect and will be paying more since I am living in Canada. Thank you kindly. |

Last April, the day after my birthday, I was fortunate enough to attend Daryl's class. I had the great oppourtunity of learning this directly from him one on one.
The 3 fly III effect is one of the best I have ever seen. I use it quite often in situations where I want to "slay" people's eyes. I change the ending a little bit to fit my needs, but this is one definately worth learning. |

HI Afshin,
Regarding mr Bob Kholer's Ultimate 3 fly: I don't think he's selling the routine or the coins anymore. I do Kohler's 3-fly (sleightly modified) and I always have the coins on me. I prefer his gaffed version to the ungaffed versions I've seen becuase of the great moments where you show both hands completely and fairly open. (Sorry Mr. Ramsay) IMHO, 3-fly is not a good closer. Sometimes I use it as an opener. I have found that when the time is right, it's very strong. There's something about the ending that's anti climatic. So what.... three coins traveled. That's the weak point I'm always trying to improve on. Currently my patter talks about the magic of inflation and how politicians move money around without being seen.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

Quick post here as I've been working on Daryl's 3 Fly Three consistently over the holidays. I thank Daryl for not only presenting his interpretation of this routine to the public but more importantly for offering detailed instruction in his notes and DVD on how to perform this routine.
I first started to try to learn a coins across at one's fingertips with Chris Kenner's write up of his routine from his book. After not easily finding a performance of Kenner's routine to view and understand what was being described in the write up or not being able to see the routine performed for the timing, I moved onto to Daryl's DVD and written up routine and super-deluxe, multi-colored practice chips. I not only like the routine but the instruction in his notes and DVD is better than anything I've seen for such a routine. The chance to see his performance and his explanation helped me in a big way. Big thanks to Daryl for putting in the extra time to fill in the gaps to truly teach rather than just show. But such a routine requires practice, more than I initially envisioned, however now it's starting to flow and look good. There's something very magicial and I envision fascinating to spectators about seeing and hearing magic with silver dollars. I highly recommend that if you're interested in learning a non-gimmicked fingertips coins across routine using silver dollars, then this is a great place to start. I've eventually revisit Kenner's routine and Hoosier's as well but Daryl's instruction and detail truly helped me scale the learning curve on this routine. Big thanks to Daryl. Now I'm struggling with the idea of putting the Morgan dollars on a wetstone to make them softer. I'll be able to hear the coin's value grind away. |

The coin's value only matters if you plan to sell them. GRIND AWAY!! Maybe you can make a necklace from the shavings.

If your that worried about the value of the coins then drop into a coin shop and ask to see the box of slickers. Slickers are a term for worn coins. You can usually get Morgan slickers for $5 or so.
They also call them junk coins and will send them back to the mint to be melted down and used again. Mobius |

Daryl's 3 Fly is great when you want to go ungaffed. I use it and modify the rouitne a bit to my liking. It's a great effect to learn and it has its magical and comedic moments too.

If you are getting slicks for $5 buy all you can. The price of silver is not that cheap ( or you have a VERY generous dealer )

Wow, $5 for a slicker Morgan is great...I just paid $5 for a walking Liberty half....Anyway, I have never been disappointed with a Daryl product..In fact, I sold his knives, and now want a set, since I think his routine is the best I've seen that fits my style.... ..

I'm another satisfied customer of daryl's 3 fly,the instruction is second to none.
I have altered the handling for the flight of the second coin but other than that its the original routine that I perform. |

I feel your pain about sanding down the coins..it just feels odd..so I bought soft coins from a dealer and they were able to maintain that older coin look..I like the patina on the coins as oppsed to a coin looking brightly polished..old coins usually look..well..old. there are some great threads on the forums about softening up the cins though..so please let us know how it turns out for ya
I also agree Daryl has some great stuff out there and does a great job explaining and teaching them. Chris |
