We all know how important it is to keep our nails in a clean and good condition for close up. Ask your wife or girlfriend what she uses. I have stolen my wifes nail thing. 4 sides to it, shape, ridges, smooth and shine. If you don't go too mad on the shine bit your nails look great. No way would I have thought of using something like that until she showed my what it does.

Get thee to the mainicure lady! you want the cuticles done too, find one who will do the buff- not polish, and they will even show you how to maintain them (the 4-way thingie)
DO read the instructions on the package, one side is extra rough and meant for shaping only, and will trash your nails if used as part of the buff! Better still, have a nail session with the wife/girlfriend and do each others- hard to get the cuticles yourself, spend that quality time, and do not forget the hand lotion! I-T was out for me for years due to my work leaving me with rough hands before I started to lotion regularly! Demolition work is hard on the hands! Oh, just in case you wonder, I am female!! Kay

I visit mainicure time after time. In the beginning it was little bit uncomfortable to be there like a only male person in the room, it was like pressing yourself into girls holy territory, but eventually I got use to it:) And now I enjoy all of those girls around me

I think everyone should have a professional manicure at least once. It's heavenly.
If you are one to shy away from visiting a salon, find a Mary Kay consultant and ask for a private "satin hands" demonstration. Even better: if you belong to a magic club, ask her (him) to give a hand/nail class for the club, perhaps after a regular meeting. |

I have to take care of my nails, not only because I am a magician, but also because I play fingerstyle guitar. Through the years I have learned a lot of good "tricks" about nail care. I have never went to a professional manicurist yet, but I have become quite proficient at self-manicure.

Hands really should look good. In a word, professional.
Manicures are way easier than messing with it yourself.

I think clean and short fingernails are essential for any magic performer. Not only for them, though.

I've noticed that Eugene Burger always stresses the importance of well kept fingernails for close-up magicians.
In fact, if you look at the "pristine" state of his fingernails on the Magical Voyages Videos/DVDs, I believe he MUST have visited a manicurist before those sessions! What about face condition for close-up. Anyone use their wife/daughters moistureizer?? (I do!) best regards, Stephen. |
