I've been on the lurk on this one trying to glean from these posts if the effect was worthwhile. Not in the terms of seven bucks, but in the terms of a good trick.
For those who insist on commenting that its ONLY SEVEN BUCKS, that's just crap. Why should any consumer have a so-so or bad product justified by the money spent?

How's about a simple review without the price tag?

I did not buy this because I simply do not know enough about it.
Its beginning to sound like a napkins over the head trick - which is always a trick to the volunteer (until told) and always a gag to the audience. If this is the case, it sounds pretty good!

I have to say that if that's what its about, the advertising is very misleading. The price isn't. I wouldn't expect that a truly revolutionary method for the vanish would be let go for seven dollars.

As for napkins over the head, well that trick is worth $50.

Wow I really like that blog. If he had advertised it as the monkey vanish I think everyone would be happier.

I agree...

This is a fantastic illusion for $7 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell were you guys expecting, something that made you actually vanish?

The only people complaining are just small minded.

You can do all your fancy illusions, card effects or whatever and get great reactions for sure, but you can really fry someone with just the poltergiest illusion alone.

I've seen it in action, at conventions. Someone will do some fantastic card magic and coin stuff and have the spectators oooh-ing and ah-ing, but then someone comes along and does Poltergiest Illusion(never used that name before) and some simple cold reading and has the person freaking out!!!!

This should say something. Add in a very convincing instantanious vanish and you have an impromtue miracle that you can do whenever you want.

All this for $7 dollars......

I think what is even more amazing than the illusion itself is the fact that people don't see how great it is, especially for only $7 little dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only that makes this strange is the fact that he said $50,000 to any one who wants this exclusively. Personally seven bucks was good for the monkey vanish but if he had given the effect in the ads I could have figured this out in two seconds.

Ben

Bottom Line: for $7 bucks this is good.

Hey wait a minute when I said bottom line it was the Bottom line, but now this line is the bottom...d'oh

I've said since I've been in magic (like..oh geeezzz..well counting the days of watching Magic Land of Alakzam with Mark Wilson...about 40-some years in all)...that if there was just some way to STOP TIME for 3 seconds...well, just imagine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I'm gonna get this as I'm SURE it'll inspire me in some way (ever notice how you "create" better right after a good lecture???...well I do anyway)...besides it's IS $7!!! I always said, I'd never sell a video of anything I "invented" for more than $20 as that's what BLANK VHS tapes were when I got my first VCR back in 1978...and never have. It was worth it for the great stuff I still have from TV back then (Blassie at his best "..you pencilneck geeks..")

GEeezzz like it's been said alot..it IS only $7 for a good idea!!!...in a quote I heard on tv one time (I pro wrestler I think...from 1979!)..."I spend more than that on wrong numbers and spilled whiskey this week..."

Anyway...even though I'm 89.9 percent (%??) certain I know how this works just from the good 'n bad posts...I'm gonna get it anyway.

But will try and make less wrong numbers and spill less whiskey anyway!

Lbertie, they deleted some of your posts because I reported some of them. Realize you're new to the board, so probably didn't realize that directly referring to the method on this open board is a no no. Once you reach 50 posts, you'll be able to join in on some of the "private areas" where folks can be more open in their discussion of methods.

While I disagree with your take on the product, wasn't the reason for my jumping in. Was strictly to protect their intellectual property (I know....what intellectual property....)

Gee thanks. I revealed nothing. I just named a trick it was a rehash from and got not only that but several other posts deleted. Let's see if I can create a wacky argument for deleting your posts. I bet it works as they don't seem to be reading what the poster actually said. Nor did you, it seems. Peace.

Say what you will, Craig Leonard, but I've gotten a LOT of mileage with that "old kid's trick" of pulling off my thumb. Actually, I pull off my index finger. And I do it VERY slowly, impromptu and even surrounded, raising my hand to show exactly how to cover the right index finger middle knuckle with the first two fingers of your left hand, and then, raising my hands, show how to cover the back of that same knuckle with your left thumb. I encourage everybody to do it with me -- make the same moves, hand positions, etc. Then, as I hold my hands in front of me, I massage the right middle index finger knuckle between my left thumb and first two fingers until it's "loose enough," then simply slide the index finger off my right hand -- and back on.

Last time I did this? At a couple of holiday parties.

The reaction is always the same. Grown men and women laugh in shock and their eyes grow wide, just like kids. And they immediately demand to know how I did it. So I show them again, encouraging them to follow my every move. Slowly. Tilting my right palm up, so they can see exactly where the left thumb goes behind the knuckle, then tilting it down again so they get the placement of the left first two fingers over the knuckle just right. Then I slide the tip of my finger off AGAIN.

Same reactions every time! "Wait a minute? HOW do you do that?"

I NEVER show them the actual positional switch, of course. And I always just play it calmly, exactly as if I can really do this, and get them to keep trying along with me. "Well, you have to be double-jointed," I'll sometimes say.

Yes, it's a stupid old kid's trick. I've been performing it since I was six, when my Dad taught me. But it's always fun to enjoy their expressions of shock and laughter and recognition (when was the last time a grown man pulled this on them?).

Even more fun, half an hour later, to catch them out of the corner of my eye, huddled in a group, still trying to figure out how to pull their index fingers off.

Now, you may not think so: but for a "trick" that cost me exactly nothing, it's brought decades of pleasure -- to me and those who try to join me in performing it.

Nevertheless, I am shocked -- shocked! -- to learn that Fearson's self-vanish, for $7, does not actually make you vanish.

As with the "stupid old" pulling-off-the-finger bit, presentation is everything.

Blindbo,

A straight-forward review...

Can you perform it surrounded? No.

Do you need gimmicks? No.

Is there a lengthy set-up? No.

Can you amaze a spectator? Yes.

Can you perform it in a room full of people without others figuring it out? No.

If you perform it for one person, will they be forever amazed and never figure out how it happened? Unlikely.

Would David Copperfield buy exclusive rights to it? No.

Is it easy to learn? Yes, but presentation is key to selling it.

Would the average magician be dissapointed? Depends on your level of cycicism.

How much more can I say without revealing the secret? Not much.

Does it have entertainment potential? Yes.

Does this help?

David Bilan

Could it be a gag with audience participation? Very easily.

I guess it is all in what you can get out of this...

I don't understand how this can be considered to be the third item he releases-this does not even come close to Fantastic Flotation, never mind the laser illusion!

Who knows,

I think Steve has the greatest tongue-in-cheek humor in the realm. His humor is "warped"--just like mine. LOL.

The Self Vanish manuscript is easily worth $7. Creative thinking and the Gorilla illusion will _surely_ become part of someone's act.

As others have already said, were people expecting real invisibility for $7? For those who $7 is a big deal for I recommend you wait for reviews in future so you can make a balanced decision. Leaping to the 'Buy' button the moment an effect is released will probably lead to disappointment most of the time. Do your research and make an educated decision. This won't _prevent_ you making purchases you are disappointed with but will greatly reduce the number!

I like that aspect of it best. Thanks, David, for the best review of a seven dollar trick I ever read. Smile

Has anyone thought that Fearson is doing this on purpose?
He puts out an awesome illusion for a very cheap price, but advertises a controversial trick as the main thing.

Kind of the "I control you all" Derren Brown scandal.

I'll bet Steve is laughing a sardonic laugh right now and saying, "See, I told you,
pearls before swine"
Cheers,
James

I think I'm going to sell that. What are you charging for the exclusive rights ? Right now, I'm considering names for it like; Goodbye Finger, or maybe Finger Sawing In Half, and possibly even Fearson's Fantastic Finger. Any suggestions ?

I believe Steve's next release is a prison escape using a golf ball called "Fearson's Fearsome Folsom Foursome." I could be mistaken, but I might simply be wrong.

Why, THANK YOU, Mattisdx! I'm flattered you recognize the possibilities!

With many years of practice on my manual dexterity, I sometimes perform a variation using the right middle finger instead of the index finger. I call it the "Flying ****!" and could probably sell you the rights for considerably less that I offered DC, who for some reason, took a pass and had me evicted from Caesar's Palace.

Another variation, again using the right index finger, I call "Finger Food." I generally perform this only for children under ten, who have an instinctive appreciation for its, uh, tastelessness. Once I've "removed" the tip of my right index finger, I simply pop it in my mouth and gobble it down -- carefully maintaining the remaining half of the finger on my right hand.

Once the youthful goggle-eyed "Eeeewwws!" and "Gross's!" begin to subside, I convincingly feign regurgitation (with appropriate vocals), spit out the undigested finger tip and reattach it.

Almost invariably, "Finger Food" results in the immediate removal of the wee ones from my presence, and a parental invitation to vanish. Sometimes, they even show me how.

As you can tell, I strive always for sophistication and refinement in my effects.

I have perfected 37 different routines based on the old pulling-off-the finger trick and am considering publishing them in an eBook for, uh, $7.
