Has anyone got a good discreet reset for S&S? Taking out the coin and the "bang ring" just isn't so subtle!

I switched to doing Peter Marucci's ungaffed version of Scotch and Soda ... No reset required.

Yes, Peter Marucci was kind enough to share his version of (in the past) his ungaffed Scotch and Soda.
Real Coins, no gimmicks, and not hard to do. And you end up clean and have no reset. Nice clear thinking as usual, from Mr. Marucci! BroDavid

I can also vouch for Peter's routine. I got it from Peter a few months back and it's great.

I am not familar with Mr. Marucci's routine which I plan to rectify with an email, but I have used Johnny Thompson's no-gimmick Scotch and Soda with great success. It's also relatively easy to learn.

I have started using my Sun and Moon coin for Scotch and Soda effects. I love Peter's routine as well. But I love the seemingly ordinary look to the coin. It instantly resets. I love it. Great for spellbounds. But not good for spectator inspection.
Geez, I just realized this is my 500th post. I really need a car. Lol. Take care everyone. |

If you'd like a great handling for the Scotch and Soda, check out Don Alan's video from Stevens' Magic Emporium. He uses it to reintroduce a quarter that was previously vanished. His thinking on how this prop can be used is ingenious.

Just don't perform it more than once. Do one really great trick with it and then leave it at that. Sometimes it's all too easy to overdo it with this trick. Buy a second set if you want to do a second trick, it should be easy enough to pocket the nested trick and remove the other one for a second trick.
If you're table hopping and really need to reset it lots of times, maybe get the magnetic version. |

I can vouch for Peter's ungimmicked Scotch & Soda. It's an excellent trick. Although the S&S gimmick (feke, actually) is one of the best, anytime I can use ungimmicked coins and cards, I go for it. It makes life (and my pockets) so much simpler.

um yeah what Jim said. Peter's ungimmicked is my favorite due to its simplicity.

The Scotch & Soda is definitely a great trick, but it sometimes loses its effect because not too many people have seen an english penny and they instantly think it is rigged and disregard what they just saw.
I recommend making the english penny disappear right in the spectator's open palm - it really does do a better job of freaking them out (be sure to practice this many times if you are new to it!!!!). Still, if you are looking for the ultimate in coin vanishing, I higly reccomend the dime & penny trick - It's one of my personal favs - don't forget about Peter Marucci's method either - great stuff.

I use Peter’s routine (thanks Peter) and the gimmicked version.
When I use the gimmicked version I always (8 times out of 10) have the routine “Breakout” with me as well. It is designed specifically for using the S&S gimmick in another routine (following the regular S&S routine) that resets the gimmick right in front of the spectator during the course of the routine. As soon as the “Breakout” routine is finished you’re immediately set up to do the regular S&S routine again. |

My version of Scotch & Soda uses a Half-Dollar & a Mexican coin. I usually say that the bang ring is just a "coin holder" for the half-dollar & then I put it in upside down so that you can't bang it out. I haven't ever had any questions

I dont turn mine into a quarter but into a Penny. I tell a story of a kid who wanted to buy some candy that totaled 51 cents but all he had was a 50 and an old mexican coin he found and the store owner said he needs a Penny to which I do the trick and am able to hand out both coins immedietly
