You could just force a large turkey over head. Remember to remove the bag of innards, as they will oppose vision down the bridge of the nose. Also remember, you can always cut small holes under the arms and legs. By violently shaking your head around, you will cause the arms and legs to flail out a bit, and giving you a better field-of-vision.
You may also include the front row in your gag by soaking them with chicken juice as you shake your head like that. Just be sure to mark off the "soaker seat" section. |

Questions:
Is there a need for such a compilation? I'm quite certain that there is a market, but is there a need? Are any of these effects truly *easy to master*? Should Mentalism be * made easy*? Just asking. - entity

Yes (the effect, not the presentation) and No.
But the Easy To Master series has been going for a while and this is another one in that series. Stop being so elitist with the art form. If people want to learn then they need to start somewhere. I personally have all this material in books but that will not stop me from buying them to see a master at work. It is also nice to see how Richard will bring the material up to date in his presentations. Curt.

No, I don't believe that performing Mentalism well is any easier than it is to perform a good magic routine well.
I think that the 'easy' part refers to the fact that you have a lot of mentalisms classic pieces laid out for you, and you didn't have to dig to find them all yourself. I'm really looking forward to purchasing this set from Richard. |

I think we all wished the presence of Annemann on the DVD's, but unfortunately, the day of the shooting, he had to go cooking for his grandma who just broke her leg. And same for Corinda, as he was on a trip to Disneyland. |

I would have to say that it would be pretty hard to get some of the originators to perform on the DVD series as they have long since left this strange place. By having someone like Richard deliver these classics enables us to see where many modern day effects stem from. It would be wonderful to see the originators perform their routines but alas not really possible, by having a modern day expert teach us who knows the material from it's original source is the next best thing and in some ways an advantage as we not only learn the classic but also the new tips and angles which someone like Richard would include. These DVDs are essential for anyone wanting to learn the fundamentals of mentalism and even those with experience and knowledge will take something away with them. It is all a matter a value, new effects, classic renditions, effects to fool your friends, effects to entertain a paying audience. I for one can quite happily purchase a set of four DVDs and use only one element or tip from a single effect and the entire investment has been worth it, whilst others would not be happy unless they came away with routines from every DVD.
In regards to the name Easy To Master I personally think it is more a familure brand and identity than an actual statement. I come from the old school of 13 steps and Annemans Mental Miracles.. Would these DVDs make it easier to master than from those books, for me personally yes it would. Just my very humble opinion... Marc Spelmann

I was thinking the exact same thing, Mark...what's up with T. Annemann? He won't return my e-mails? I really wanted some private lessons from him. I think there is a bit of jealousy that someone finally took the time to prove to the mentalism community that indeed, there is very useful information for us to use today. I have always wanted to see this stuff performed, and it definately helps me to see it firsthand. I'm not even going to take a guess on how much time was spent in production.
To me...time X hard work = pay. |

Hey, guys, I though it was obvious that I was Ironic about Annemann grandma and Corinda trip to disneyland!
Sorry if it wasn't! I was just trying to say that these DVD's were a lesson of classics that can't be performed on visual support by their genitors, as they're not here anymore; |

Even though I stated this in a previous post on this thread, it deserves repeating. The effects that Richard performes and explains on his new Easy to Master series are classics. I personally was enthralled as I am sure everyone else who has a serious interest in mentalism that Mr. Osterlind decided to perform and explain these wonderful classics of mentalism. There is just not a handful of classics thrown in but every single effect listed on the DVDs are in fact classics and they are classics because they were and remain powerful effects.
If Mr. Osterlind did not decide to do the exhaustive research in compiling this list of classic effects and did not devote his time and energy and hard work in making sure that these classic effects were performed and explained according to his own self-imposed high standard, these classics would never have been seen in performance on DVD and we all would have been relegated to only to read about these effects without ever seeing them performed before a live audience or explained in detail as only Mr. Osterlind could explain. The magic and mentalism community are extremely fortunate to be able to watch and learn from Mr. Osterlind on how these classic effects are to be performed and the reasoning and philosophy invovled in the methodology. Mr. Osterlind brings to these DVDS and to the classic effects his decades of experience and devotion to magic and mentalism that are truly invaluable. Best regards, Michael

If these are half as good as your "Mind Mysteries", I will be very very happy. I was close to getting Corinda's 13 steps, and I'm sure I eventually will, but I am thrilled to be able to see the effects in person. I can stop working on my "Top Shot", and get into some more mentalism!

Gentlemen,
Let me lay out exactly how ETMMM came into being. Jim Sisti and I were discussing the possibility of doing just one video of the best mentalism card magic available. There is tons of it and I used to love Kreskin performing some on TV. Louis Falagna of L&L publishing suggested that, instead, we could do the ETMMM series. My first idea was to approach a lot of friends for their pet routines. The more I thought about it, however, the more I remembered the posts here on the Café about Annemann and Corinda. It dawned on me that although every newcomer is directed towards the classics (look at the hundreds of posts on the Café suggesting that very thing) there was no video record of these great effects. That is what prompted me to move in the direction I did. What is on these videos is basically what I grew up with, what influenced me and what I performed. Most of the material on these videos is from books magicians already have sitting on their shelves. I would certainly think that if a newcomer finds the effects fascinating, they will run out to buy these books and study them for the other gems they contain. I tried to give a wide representation of book tests, billet tests, card effects and just about every factor of classic mentalism I could think of. Finally, I wanted to give a visual description of the boldness necessary to pull off this kind of material. It took me a long time to learn it and I could have a lot faster if I had such a video reference to go by. Richard |

Sounds intriguing and interesting Richard.
I have allready ordered these tapes from you, and looking foreward to view them with 13 Steps of Mentalism, and the Annemann books beside me. With such teachers as Corinda, Annemann, and Osterlind, one can't possible go wrong. Peo

Richard; most look forward to the opportunity to watch them, and finally bother to learn the classics.
I loved Mind Mysteries, and look forward to seeing a modern take on the classics. Owing to my impoverished student lifestyle I won't be able to afford them for a week or two. It may be time for me to take advantage of the exchange rate offered. I'm off to drink some more Port and sing sea shanties. Take care
Trust anyone who has gone through it.

FWIW, the original question may have come about from recent concerns on the Café (and elsewhere) about intellectual property rights. If I were to make a copy of 13 Steps and sell it, would I be in violation of copyright? Have the copyrights expired on Corinda and Annemann's material so that it is now public domain?
Knowing Richard, I'm sure he has obtained the permissions, if any, that are needed to be showing and selling these classic handlings. - Greg Owen

I for one can say that Richard Osterlind is a man of integrity. I think that what he's done for the mentalism community should be applauded. I would like to thank you formally, Richard, for the hard work you had to go through to get such a compilation out.
