This is one of the most interesting book of card magic that I ever read. I would rate the difficulty level at HIGH. In fact, when the book came out, people were wondering if Ernest Earick could actually do these effects.
For my point of view, the effects are interesting and there are a few moves and touches that could be inserted in the stuff that people already do. If you want to have a taste of the effects, go to http://www.denisbehr.de . These is 3 video of effects taken from this book. I really enjoyed the book because of all the moves that were fun to practice. I have, however, not enough courage to do these effects for real people as they are very much demanding and I prefer to be a little bit on the safe side when performing. Hope this help. Richard |

Hi folks,
Really thanks for the advice and comments about this book. Yes, I read many reviews this book indeed very difficult to perform. Since, all the effects inside of this book are so difficult, does anyone here really perform the effects in the real world or in front of spectators? Even though with enough practise, is it all the card effects inside still difficult to perform? Thanks! There is one self-working trick (10 cards poker deal).

I perform a load of stuff from that book. Under fire in a paid performance even! Ok I'll quit bragging. I have to admit, this is one of the best books I've read on sleight of hand with cards in a long time. He has many elegant solutions to effects. I would highly reccommend it.

We had the chance to see Ernie Earick at The Buffalo Get-Together 2 weeks ago. He is a very nice guy and he performs his stuff flawlessly. Seing him was an inspiration. We also got the chance to see some of his new moves. Breathtaking!!!!! He has an easy way to do the cascade control, imagine that.
I also spent some time with Wesley James. This guy is the real thing my friends. All in all it was a most magnificient week-end! Yves |

The book is written by Stephen Minch, so in answer to your question - an outstanding YES! The descriptions of the sleights, moves and effects are very detailed.
You should have no problem following through the book. Regards, Martin.

A great book if you're a "move-monkey" as Bill Malone says. Many (or at least good chunks of some) of the effects could be achieved with easier moves but probably losing some magical impact.
For me it was mainly just fun reading about his thought process and the creativity of the moves. It is unusual and well written so I value it highly. |

I think anyone with a strong interest in card magic could find at least one thing in this book that they like. I think everyone should at least read it just to see and of course like the man said, by Minch one of the five best writers in magic.

Paul I can't argue with you that Mr. Minch may well be the best writer in magic today or any day for that matter. I certainly give my attention whenever he puts pen to paper as they might have said a few years ago but he's not the only one that I personally follow as magic writer. I could only think of five at the time I wrote the above but I thought there might be only three great writers in magic today earlier. I can think of three immediately.

Hi,
Frankly, I heard some people said that the effects are not practical, how many are you really perform Earnest's effects to spectators? On top of that, there are so many angle problems that will scare you away of performing them. Thanks and I am appreciate your advice and opinions here. Best Wishes, Andrew Loh Check out my new card magic eBooks "The Magnificent Queens" & "Triple Charms" at: www.cardicianden.com My Cardician Den Blog: http://pasteboards.blogspot.com/ |

The angles aren't as bad as people say. Jack Synapses is something I love performing. Claptrap can be done pretty comfortably in a table setting as can houseguest. And he even has a brilliant almost self-working trick. Once you get the book Andrew, you can be the judge.
I was also at the Buffalo get-together, and Ernest did some stuff that played to the whole room of magicians. Sure, some of the stuff is hard. Sure, some of it requires attention to angles, but that does not detract from the work. This stuff can be done under fire, if you're willing to put in the work. Cheers, Derrick |
