The question is in the title really. I am thinking about buying a dice stacking DVD/video on this topic. How hard is it to learn and how long does it take? Also, are there any recommendations on DVD's/video's if you think it is not that hard to learn.

Thanks,

Chris

It is not hard, in my opinion.
I learned in 30 mintues after watching a video.
It looks impossible but it's quite attainable.

Routines can be a lot like chop cup routines
with interesting loads, color changes, etc.

The Jim Z video is good.
The Todd Strong video is good.
The Extreme Dice Stacking is good.

They're all good.

Check my website for more info or PM me.
My dice stacking cups are also chop cups.

I'm offering a special.. cup, balls, dice, and video at a discounted price until I run out of videos..

It's easy to do once you know how. I taught a magician the other night who was in our bar and he stacked four high on his second pass and could pick them up one by one and stack in less than five minutes. I've got a couple of those stacking videos but it's easier to learn from a teacher hands on. Pete Biro taught me how about 20 years ago and I've taught a half dozen magicians. It takes about five minutes to learn the move. Of course after that you need to practice for a couple of years!! We used to make and sell a nice leather chop cup perfect for stacking four square casino dice. Try to find someone who knows how to stack to show you the move then get one of those videos to help improve your technique. Best book is Sen Crandall's little $2 book on dice stacking. You can learn from that if you can stop laughing long enough from reading Sen Crandall's BS!!! Most of all, have fun!

Frank: How much would it cost me to get the products you mentioned shipped to Sweden?

There are a bunch of great posts on this subject that answer all of these questions over at the buskers café.

I was going to cut and paste a bunch of stuff and figured it was easier to just send you there.

Best,

Dan-

Tabman, unfortunately we don't all have the good fortune to know or be anywhere near a professional magician, let alone dice stacker. I think I will take the video option.

I know what you mean, Chris. If you're close to Nashville, TN come by and I'll show you. If not, get the Jim Z video. I think he breaks it down pretty good and try to get a copy of Senator Crandall's little $2 booklet on stacking.

I like the Jim Z video as well. It does a splendid job of teaching dice stacking.
I'm giving that video away with any cup if asked. I have not seen the Crandall booklet but I would like to.

By the way tableman, nice stuff on your website.

Frank: It's TABMAN not TABLEMAN... you must, some day, get to see his "place" in Tennesee.

Tabman, if I'm ever in IL I'll stop by, but I'll tell you now that it's a very long and arduous walk from the UK to there! Cheers anyway for the advice on the booklet (which I'd like to hear more about, too).

Hey, I can live with Tableman. That's what I am anyway and I like it!!! Pete Biro invented me and pulled me into the magic business by my whiskers. He is a great man. What I like about him is that you can trust him.

Chris, it's a long walk from the UK all right and you would need floating shoes and a big paddle and to survive in Tennessee you would have to like ham and buscuits and moonshine. I will get you the info on Sen Crandall's book. I bought mine from him for $2 ppd when he used to write in Genii. It's called "How to Stack Dice for Fun and No $$," a half page size little blue booklet with 8 or 10 pages typewriter writen and offset pressed. I've read it twenty times I know. You can read it in less than a half hour and it will crack you up. He was so funny. I read it every few months. I love the dice stacking lore and the fun of the trick. I'm glad to see so much interest in it and all the great new products that Frank and others are putting out.

I'll get that info on the booklet later on tonight. I bet Pete Biro has one put away somewhere. I'd never part with mine but if I had two I would give one away. Surely someone is still publishing it somewhere but maybe not. Something we need to get to the bottom of however.

I haven't looked thoroughly around for that booklet yet, but I did find a site (Denny Magic) that sells the booklet for $4.

Chris

P.S. I'll post back here if I find more sites.

That's great news. It will be the best $4 you ever spend in dice stacking. There will never be another Senator Crandall. You will love the book. Take it in the spirit of fun and it will teach you the business between the lines. I'm happy to hear that it's available for you guys that haven't seen it.

I have found another one site, but this is the only other I could find (although Denny Magic looks more professional and reliable)

http://www.ronallesimagic.com/books.htm

This page leads to a list of books, of which the booklet is number 79 in the list. You will then need to click the "Order Now" link at the bottom of the list.

Hope this helps,

Chris

I'd suggest getting a copy then. You won't be sorry. Definitely worth the $4 plus whatever to mail it. Real insight into a dice stacking character named Senator Crandall and some good moves and ideas too.

Cstreet_1086, sir... since you are in the U.K., get to London and the Magic Circle on a Monday night and get hold of Pat Page...A GREAT DICE STACKER for sure. He and I used to hang out and play with dice stacking when he worked at L. Davenport & Co., on Great Russell street.

Here's my latest design for dice stacking cups.
Actually the design is the same. New color scheme.

I made the interior of red leather, black leather outside, and I ordered un-cancelled white precision dice to go with the cups.

Makes for a very pretty cup with nice color contrast.

Wow, Frank!!! I checked out your website. The stacking cups look perfect. Good work. Nice website too. I will add a link from tabman tables. Your leather pouches look excellent, all your stuff. We've been making a black canvas pouch called "The No Slouch Pouch" for about 15 years. You can read a review in one of the issues of The Magic Menu, The First Five Years. Nothing like yours, really. Harry Anderson used one on one of his TV specials a few years ago. I hope to be ordering one of your dice cups and dice sets soon!!
