Okay, I joined the Café a little over a month ago, so I'm not brand new, but since I've never actually introduced myself, I thought now would be a good time.
I have had an interest in magic for about 12 years now, ever since the Copperfield "Flying" special in 1992. (Has it really been that long?) Back then, I was just a kid in the 7th grade, and I remember being in complete awe of this magician that I had seen on TV before, but for some strange reason, never had that much of an impact. I guess it was just that strong of an illusion. I began to buy magic books, and a few tricks here and there (mostly the cheap plastic stuff, or an occasional Tenyo). Eventually I had a chance to got to my first actual magic shop--US Toy in Leawood, KS. Well, I had no idea what I wanted to get, but when one of the guys there demonstrated Scotch and Soda, I became hooked. I walked out of US Toy with that and cig thru quarter, and a dream of someday being a pro magician. Still waiting... I'm really enjoying my time here at the Café, and I look forward to dropping in whenever I have the chance. The menu is great and the people here are exceptionally knowledgeable and willing to help. Very different from other forums I've seen (and much better because of it). Well, that is the story of me. Until later... Brandon |

Welcome! Maybe you can answer this question for me:
Is it pronounced MissourEEE Or MissourUHH? My parents live in Bolivar (just north of Springfield, and pronounced BALL-uh-verr, who would have guessed?) They still don't know the answer. I graduated from a tech school in Kansas City (but it wasn't in Kansas??? Why do you Midwesterners have to be so dang confusing??)

Dave,
I myself say MissourEEE. I guess I figure that they put the "i" on the end of it for a reason. By the way, I don't know if you have ever heard of Nevada, Missouri, but I thought you would enjoy the fact that it is pronounced Ne-VAY-da around here. The Midwest rules. |

Yep, I've been there. My mother was born not far from Nevada, MO.
