I've just watched the video of this effect and here are my views:
On the PLUS side: It's novel! A great idea having something that doesn't look like another magic box. Oh so portable and small and easy to set up - Oh so portable and small and easy to set up - I had to write that twice as it is SO IMPORTANT! (A whole illusion in a bag!? - I want MORE!) On the down side: You can't open the back as you can with many other shadow boxes (At least not unless you modify the set up a lot. Rotation: I don't like the fact that it is on the floor (people will think TD!) and whilst you can rotate the whole thing, to me, it doesn't look good. - I would fix both these problems by having it on a fold-up-able rotating low platform. (Otherwise know as a low square table with wheels!) Soother rotation and off of the stage! - You may also be able to work something out with this setup where you can open the back some at least a little and wave to the audience through the tent. Cost? - Well that is up to the producers - they sell it, if you want to pay that much for a tent then get your visa card out now - Personally, I'm off to my local camping store! Basically, some people are good with their hand like me and build their own illusions, some people don't have this and like an off-the-shelf out-of-the-bag illusion. Therefore there is a need for a builder/seller of this product. Chris.

I'm sorry if you are offended by my post, MikeDes that was not my intention.
But who did I "steal" the idea off when I built my own sub trunk? Houdini? I have also posted some ideas as to how I think it could be bettered - I have no problem if the creator, you or anyone here does or does not use or steals those ideas from me they are free! I at no time suggested that everyone should not buy this illusion for the producer. There are also other posts here in this thread that mention the price and buying their own tent for less, but you have not attacked them! I build all my own illusions and if (and that's a big if) I decide to do something along these lines, it would not be anything like the original by the time I finished with it. I have never directly copied anything! My train of thought was going along the lines of a more original looking shadow box but making it far more portable. :)

Shrubsole,
Your post said..."I'm off to my local camping store". I think it's pretty safe to say, given your post, that your objective is to make a Shadow Tent. Guess what, the Shadow Tent is NOT in the public domain. Someone spent a lot of time and money coming up whith that illusion. If you make an unauthorized version your are STEALING. Rationalize it anyway you want! And yes, I AM very offended by this. |

Does anyone know the name of the song played in the video clip of Shadow tent?

I Do, it is actually called the Shadow Tent music. (ok I am not very clever with my names) the music on the Victory cubes is called the victory cubes music as well
Anyhow these are custom songs that we had composed for our show. If you own a shadow Tent I can hook you up with the music if you like.

The Shadow tent is GREAT! I love this illusion. Like all Creative Magic products it is extremely well made to last forever and it is so easy to set up and transport I wish every illusion were this easy to use!
oh and I think they should charge more foe them. I spent more on my first shadow box and this is 10xs better. |

Oops I lied I was just sending the music to a Shadow Tent owner and realized the music on the clip on our site is our old music (before we had "the shadow tent song") that we now use in our show. You can hear the new song that I was referring to on the Bruised DVD or other DVDs that show our other products. The one on the site (until we switch it I guess) is an edited version of an Enigma song called “Rave”. Sorry for the confusion!
But hope that helps! Brian

Mike, you are too funny!
Ok because I am a nice guy and just to show everyone how sorry I am I will knock 25 cents off the price of TRAPLESS if you mention the Shadow Tent song.

Well after about 4 months since I last posted I found the music that I was looking for and it is called
enigma from house of techno. I found it in a bunch of music files that I backed up onto dvds for later. |

Great! again I am sorry for the confusion. we have used 5 different songs for the Shadow tent over the years. It is hard to keep them all straight.
best wishes B

I saw Joe Pasquale using the Shadow Tent live late last year. I was pretty close to the stage. Not to give too much away but there's a really eery atmospehere, an enchanting story, an unexpecting audience volunteer, and a gorilla involved. As far as angles go, the victim was stood right next to the tent throughout and was clearly NOT expecting the Gorilla. Very funny and a superb effect. This just wouldn't have been possible with the standard shadow box. This version had a zip front, with velcro also which was ripped away for the production. Is this a standard bit, or has this been added? Well done Brian on a superb illusion. I can see it has limitless possibilities in the correct hands. As someone who has seen it from just a few feet away I say buy it, its so much more than a tent!!

WOW!!! I had the opportunity of using the shadow tent in a show this past week, now it has a permanent place in all my shows. I admit at first it was just a filler to take a little time while setting up the next illusion, but it worked out really well. Also when I first saw this for sale I thought the same thing everyone else thinks “ I could make that” but when I broke down and bought the shadow tent I was extremely happy with the quality of the illusion. It is also great that it can fit into such a small bag and easily transportable… I would give the shadow tent a 9.4 / 10 definitely worth the money it is really cheap for as big of an effect as it has.

I saw Mac King perform the shawdow tent and it floored me. Also a fantastic reaction from the packed house at Harrah's showroom.
