Hey guys I got a 15 minute piece to perform at a fundraiser at the end of this month. There will be a few real quality bands also taking part. I have come up with a piece which I know inside out but never performed it on stage.

1. Invite two spectators up. They both choose a single playing card each. One of the cards travels to my wallet and the other travels to my wallet which has being in full view the entire time.

2. I then say. "Now the next two pieces may not work as they involve suggestion and a certain degree of mind to mind activity but we will give it a shot." I then perform Casino Royale by Larry Becker.

3. Lastly I will perform a mind reading piece using Mr Osterlind's breakthrough card system... I write down my prediction on a piece of paper and give it to the spectator before he/she calls out his/her card. So I get a double reaction, firstly from the spectator who opens the prediction and then from the audience.

I was thinking of starting out with KK but I feel in this moment of time I like to mix magic with mentalism so Card to Wallet got my vote. By the way I'm 21 years old and this will be my first stage performance. It's for charity but still there will be lots of people there whom I will know and lots who I don't know. Anyways any advice about positioning spectators on stage or about my routine would be very much appreciated! By the way, thinking about it, I never even used a microphone before... good God should be interesting!

Sorry guys. I meant to say concerning the first effect that one card travels to my pocket and the other card to my wallet.

Sounds to me like you are going to have a lot of fun. The only advice I would give wold be to ensure you perform only stuff you know inside out and ensure that you have an out for anything that could go wrong, because if it can, it will.

Good luck and let us know how it went!

Kind thoughts,

Yea, mic. first time does put you off. If you can try (sometimes not possible since you said other bands will be there) and get the microphone and practice walking around stage just talking into it and getting used to how you now sound. It is a bit off putting having your voice blasted back at you much louder from speakers at the back off the hall if your not used to it which may detract from the performance.

With spectators, maybe a bit harsh put pick people that are good to look at and I found that you should try and put them mid stage not right at the front since it makes them very very nervous especially if there is a lot of people watching. Oh, and if there are a lot of people, try and get a hand held mic. on a stand for the spectator to speak into. (Dont thrust it at them when they come on stage but just have it on the side and when it comes for them to reveal what they are thinking take it off and just hold it for them.)

Hey, searching for first performances led me to this thread. Was wondering how it went?

Are you using jumbo cards for Osterlind's effect?
