Let me make one thing clear right from the start : I love these books and have read them all at least three or four times.
The insights are great, the effects as well. I'm just wondering about the effects in the first part : haunted key, ring on rubber band, uncanny... Anyone who performs them ? I use uncanny myself, but that's it. Further I'm working on the drawing dupe from part three. Again, I ask this merely out of curiosity. I love these books !

Mystery,
Without giving away anything, let me tell you that sometime in the future, there will be a set of videos that will contain some of my older material that has long been unavailable, some new material and finally, some of the items that are in the trilogy, such as the Haunted Key, Memorization act and the drawing act. As I said, this is in the future as there is so much going on now with ETMMM. And, yes, I do use these items ALL THE TIME. I first saw the ring on rubber band on a set of videos for laymen that my brother in law got for Christmas. I loved how it looked, searched out the work on the material and started doing it. Even though these videos have been available for lay audiences, I have not had a single person tell me they know how they worked. Hope that helped. Richard |

I never considered doing a "memory" item until reading Richard's ebook. I tried it and was astounded at the positive reaction. It was obvious that the audience had no idea how I could possibly do that...even though I have been familiar with these techniques for a long time...and assumed that it would be obvious to everyone else as well. I was wrong! And, the little extra twist that Richard gives at the end is particularly nice. Do it!

Mr. Osterlind,
Thanks for your reply... Again, I asked this merely out of curiosity. I like these effects and toy with them for myself, but I never showed it to an audience.Perhaps I have never performed the ring and the haunted key out of uncertainty... Anyway, I truly love the books and I look very much forward to your new work.

The haunted key is a brilliant effect and I've had some great reactions from crowds.

Yes, the haunted key is a very strong piece when PRESENTED correctly. I used it last month in my seance and almost always got gasps from the sitters. This let me know I was presenting it correctly ;-)

Quick story about the key:
Halloween eve, I was performing my Victorian act at an Antebellum mansion in Franklin, TN called the Carnton Plantation. After my show was done and I'd put everything away, the curator asked if I'd like a tour of the house. She was going to take a group through and tell some of the ghost stories related to the house. The house was used as a hospital during the Battle of Franklin, over 5,000 wounded and 1,500 lost their lives. Anyway, we get into the house, she shuts the door and starts talking to the group. I notice that the key in the door looks familiar (just like the little gold key from the Haunted Key). I said, "Did anyone else see that?" with a bit of a startled sound to my voice. The group replied, "No". I said that I saw the key moving by itself, and asked the curator if I could see the key. I mentioned that I've heard that spirits will sometimes guard over their own homes and that it's not uncommon to see keys move. I then did the key thing (using Richard's thinking from the book), and the audience went nuts. I spoke to the curator a couple of days ago, said that people (including her daughter who was there) are still talking about the key moving "by itself". Rick

I've been a fan of Richard and his work for years. If you read this, and you don't yet have these books, go now to http://www.osterlindmysteries.com and order them. The information and routines in these books are worth 10 times what Richard is charging for them.
His ideas in the third book, Essays, are things that needed to have been said. Some of them I already knew and had taken to heart myself before even reading the book, but some of them changed my thinking and I'm glad they did. Without giving away details from the book, I allowed one idea that he expressed to change my thinking in a certain area. As a result, my performing has changed, even when performing on an impromptu, informal level. Just yesterday, I was doing just a couple of quick little effects for a friend that is a country singer who had never before seen me perform. Because of the changes that I've made in my style as a result of Richard's influence, she asked me to open some of her shows that are soon coming up, and also to perform at a Christmas party she is throwing. I humbly honor Richard for all the years of hard work and also the willingness and generosity he's shown by sharing with the rest of us. Rick
