I'm producing a fifth annual benefit for the Muscular Dystrophy Asscociation and Jerry's Kids in Leitchfield, KY and our headliner has cancelled with less than a week untill showtime.
The show is this Saturday, November 13. We have a matinee and evening show. I'm in need of one or two strong acts. Illusions, comedy, a strong competition/manipulation act. If you can help me, or know of someone who can, please PM me. Lance |

Lance, I would love to help you but I live way too far to make that a reality. I will check out my resources and database and see if there might be someone near there that can help.

Hi Lance. I sent you a PM after reading this same post in one of the other areas. Thought I would post here too to make sure you got my message. In case you don't get it I live in Memphis, TN. How far are you from me? Let me know.

I would really like to help because children are also getting benefit from this event. But, it`s so hard, cause I live in Estonia.
However, today when I create my magic, I feel like an instrument of nature. I wonder what delight nature must feel when we open our hearts and express our God-given talents. The sound of approval rose across the universe and the whole world abounds in magic. Wonder fills our hearts for we have glimpsed, for an instant, the playfulness of life. And that's why I love children and learn so much from being around them. I realize that many of the world's problems today, from the inner city crime to large scale wars and terrorism, and our over-crowded prisons are a result of the fact that children have had their childhoods stolen from them. The magic, the wonder, the mystery and the innocence of a child's heart are the seeds of creativity that will heal the world. I really believe that. What we need to learn form children isn't childish. Being with them connects us to the deeper wisdom of life which is ever present and only asks to be lived. They know the way to solutions that lie waiting to be recognized within our own hearts. I would like to thank all the children of the world including the sick and deprived, I am so sensitive to your pain. I also want to thank all those people like you LanceRich who create events like this. So if there is something else I could do, just let me know ok God Bless You, I Love You From The Bottom Of My Heart

Hey guys. Just to update everyone a little. I contacted Lance. It took him 2 days to get back to me to ask me what I did and to tell me that they only pay for your (the magician) expenses. I told him what I could offer and that I would need a little to perform since it was 2 shows. I still have never got a response. I wasn't even expecting over $250 or even near that without the expenses considering that it is for charity. I was just expecting to hear from him since he really needed someone to perform. Never got a response and it's already Sunday and I know that the shows are over. Do you think I was wrong for at least expecting $100 plus my expenses to get there and to have a room for the night? What does everyone think? Thanks.

@DanCprfld, hard to say, just read my post above and listen to your heart, because only this voice inside you can tell you was it wrong or not.
But I would have paid every cost by myself and even would have made a little donation too

Hey DanC,
Thanks for the update (some of us didn't bother to post, because of distance and availability, but are were interested). Yes, I think you should expect someone to have a bit of money to cover expences and a place to stay; especially when you are filling in for someone else. I'm sure the event had some sort of budget. But then a call back to say, "no thanks" would have been nice as well, yes? With last minute things like this, inexperienced producers often use 'the shotgun approach' : they are putting out a thousand different feelers and then they often ignore a lot of comes back (if one option suddenly looks good). Personally, I think this is kind of rude. If Lance is pleading for a favor, he needs to follow up with everyone who responds. Just becuase is a charity event doesn't mean he shouldn't act like a professional. He certainly expects the people he is working with to act that way. Write it off as an offer made with good faith that was tossed to the wind. You still get credit in MY book. Peter Gross http://www.funnymagic.com P.S. I just reread my post and I thought of one other possibility . Sometimes people give you a 'I'll get in touch IF I am interested...' . If he said this, then he really doesn't need to call back. |

Thanks Mr.Gross. And this statement goes to you and King of Pop. I would have done this for charity for free if it was here in Memphis.I did a free charity show here a couple of months ago with the shriners and a few other magicians. I didn't get paid for it and I wouldn't have expected it. I look at this whole ordeal now from a different view. If Lance had a "headliner" that canceled than I am very positive that he was getting paid. I didn't ask for much. Actually a whole lot less then anyone else would have offered especially if they lived 6 hours away and were willing to do it. But yes, I should have gotten some response from Lance considering he could e-mail me and I gave him my house and cell phone number which I rarely give out. Not only that but I know he read my PM's because I checked to see if he did. A little thank you but we found someone else or we aren't having magic would have been nice. We typically are only able to compensate for expenses is the response that he gave me. Which means to me that yes we could pay but don't want to considering our headliner is gone and we can keep that money now.

If there were no funds and he wanted someone to do it for free, he should have stated that in his initial post.

We perform at "Give kids the world" as often as possible. This is a group that give terminally ill children a vacation to Orlando. Great organization. Now we perform for free but they give us a donation form that really helps me keep from giving the IRS so much of my money. I perform for the kids out of love but the tax break helps at the end of the year.
I highly sugest every entertainer to get involved with local charities and childrens hospitals. I have been doing so since I could drive. Not like full timers don't have spare time on our hands. I love my job! Will
