Ummm... congratulations?
Heh just kidding, anyway this has got to be THE BEST book in mentalism on performing. The Risk section and Your supposed to be reading minds, are my favorites.

Hello, there.
I got and read a "Pure Effect" a couple years ago. I like it. By the way I heard that the first edition of it originally had two more non card effects(mine is third edition), and they are pretty good ones. Those two effects were intentionally deleted in later edition. Is that true? If that is true: 1. Why deleted? 2. What effects exactly are they? 3. How can I obtain them? I am very sad because same price with two less effects. Thanx much. Sincerely, Jay |

Have been discussed on the Café quite a bit so a search will help you there. 3. Unfortunatly, you can't. And I don't think Derren wants people to obtain them either, hence he removed them. Regards |

Jay,
You have to hunt down someone who is prepared to sell them. Last time I saw the first edition was selling for in excess of $400. They don't come up very often. I suspect if one shows up again it will fetch in more than that. Personally I think Absolute Magic is a much better book on performance. Marc Climens |

Don't pay so much for lift and reminisence. They are definately not for everyone, I doubt that even mentalists who know how to do it, actually use it.

Hi, there.
Thank you very much for your informative answers, Mike, Bonzo, Nightbringer, and Rick. Your pure effects purify my mind. You gave me specifics, so I could do a more thorough search. Thank you again. After all H&R edition did not have the above two effects from the start. Now I understand. I am interested in "Reminiscence". Now I know it's Mr. Brown's signiture effect. I respect his creativity, but I want to study the thinking prosess of it. They tell that "Docc Hilford's Perfect Mental Club Act" video and an item from "Wonder Words Vol.3" have relation to "Reminiscence". Also they say "Kentonism" book has. My question : 1. Which item from "Wonder Words Vol.3" has relation to "Reminiscence". 2. Does "Kentonism" book have anything to do with "Reminiscence"? Thanx much in advance. Sincerely, Jay |

Hi,
Im considering purchasing this book after reading some good reviews. Are there a number of effects in it which the reader can use? Or is it a book based more on presentation, etc? |

Derren took an old, old impromptu stunt and twisted it, added a bit and made it his own and a principle and effect found in wonder words, syzygy and the Hilford thing and twisted them and made it his own. Maybe there is a clue in there somewhere!
I think Derren's biggest mistake was to remove them from his book, if he had left them in and not drawn attention to them no-one would have wanted to performed them so much! The best way to hide something is to paint it red! Slight change of subject (for anyone who is interested) It's funny, I don't mix a great deal with other magicians / mentalists and stopped going to magic clubs years ago but of the last 3 lectures I have been to I went with 4 other magicians. I enjoyed the lectures a great deal and they got luke warm receptions from the other people I went with. The lecturers names are unimportant although they are 100% top notch performers and trhis is certainly no reflection on the lecturers. The point being that all these lectures featured on character building, stage blocking, audience management, internal dialogue etc. I am sorry if the other guys who went with me did not enjoy but I have enough "tricks" to last me a lifetime, growing as a performer is important to me. I am not for one minute suggesting that the people in this thread are looking at copying anyone, it was just some random thought that sprang into my mind, perhaps by association. |

I don't think Pure Effect ever contained Lift and Rem.
Some lecture notes Derren Brown put out which eventually became Pure effect contained the two routines - but as far as I know the book was never published with them.. |

Paul,
That is incorrect, the first edition of Pure Effect (which looks self-published) does indeed contain Lift and Reminiscence. Marc Climens |
