There are four volumes and each volume is crammed with good workable effects.

Hi guys,
Many thanks for the suggestions. But, wow! That's a large sum of money to purchase all the 4 volumes. As you know, my Malaysian currency is lower than US Dollars. Anyway, I will take your word. Maybe will purchase next week. Thanks again! If pressed, I'd get the first volume...you get Lorayne as well as Richard Kaufman.

There are usually 6 tricks per issue. Contributoes like:
Russell Barnhart, Bernard Biles, Jon Brunelle, John Cornelius, Derek Dingle, Karrell Fox, Frank Garcia, Bro. John Hamman, Phil Goldstein, Paul Harris, J.K. Hartman, ... , Slydini, Herb Zarrow. I have 2 to 3 effects checked in every issue of the first year. If close-up magic is your thing, you will not be disappointed with Apocalypse Van

C'mon, Andrew, loosen up some of those ringgits you have in your pocket and try Volume 1. What's RM200, after all? You don't have to eat EVERY day, do you?
Seriously, I managed to get a good deal on all four volumes on eBay some time ago and I'm very happy with the books. Lots of contributors, lots of effect and fun to read (even though, inevitably, someone here will complain about Harry's writing style for one reason or another.) But, yes, they are expensive, especially with the exchange rate. But actually a pretty good value when you consider the page count and the trick count. |

Andrew, don't worry. I know its expensie since our exchange rates are pretty low comparatively but it is well worth it! Just get one out of the four volumes and you are pretty much covered for your whole life! But me on the other hand, once I have one volume, I will want all! So now I have to save money to get the other three!

Don't forget get about Richard's Almanac! It's a great book and not very expensive. I like The Almanac better than any single volume from Apocalypse. Lorayne's series is still incredible, however, and full of great material.

Boblinds,
It's funny that you mentioned how someone would inevitably complain about Harry's writing style. Two years ago I did just that on this site. About a month ago, Harry himself happened across the post and sent me an angry PM. Apparently he has very thin skin. Good magic, thin skin. |

Vilago,
I got one of those emails too - I had the audacity to say a couple of his items weren't to my liking. I even sent a reply, explaining where I was coming from and how much I liked most all of his stuff. He would have none of it. VERY, VERY rude man. A couple of people sent me copies of their emails - one was particularly unbelievable. I'm way too old to be intimidated by the likes of him. He directly insulted my intelligence and worthiness to comment on his writings. I don't know if he's lost it with age or if he's always been this way. It's too bad, really. I know there are a lot like me that cut their magic teeth on his stuff and this legacy of unreasonable rudeness is a shame. sam |

Apocalypse was one of the first things I bought when I started - right after card college. I've had them for years now and still haven't even scratched the surface. They are simply FULL of excellent material and couldn't recommend anything more strongly.
Hope this helps!

I only mentioned Harry's style because I always watch with chagrin -- usually from the sidelines -- when someone inevitably complains because Harry doesn't describe the trick before detailing the method.
Frankly, this is one of the things I've always LIKED about Harry's style. It's more efficient for me to browse the method than to wade through some protracted preliminary description of the effect. Since I'm also a penny-pincher, I appreciate that Harry's to-the-point approach allocates less space for blather and more for tricks. I've also had several conversations with Harry in which he's always been very personable, a real gentleman with a great sense of humor. |

Is this something that is still being published?
If not, (or even if so), where does one get it? Frank

Richard's Almanac is better. You get incredible routines by the masters and it's not written by Lorayne.

Apocalypse ran from 78 to 9? and was a launch point for several names you would recognize. There are some gems in that magazine, not including my stuff.
