I think the Kerry Pollock prop is an outstanding effect and state-of-the-art electronics. It's two classic effects in one...the Comedy Card in Balloon (where one deflates and one flies all over the room,) and Miracle Missiles (on which Sidekick and all the others are based,) wherein the spectator fires at something and misses repeatedly, hitting the magician's props instead. They make a great combination routine.
That's what I'd go with. |

Side kick I have had and sold...Seems guns are a bit taboo now a day's. I LOVED this trick though! Proviper I really like but it will scare the SH - Crap out of your volunteer. My only other choice would be going with the comedy card in balloon but here again your going to get into some sticky situations with a gun. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Should've bought the Jumbo Sidekick II...no gun or noise necessary. Or even the new Sidekick III, the updated version where you can switch (remotely) from sound operation to remote operation (or vice versa) anytime you want. I'd never get rid of mine, but since I'm in Mississippi (and work in Tennessee, too), I'm glad you got rid of yours.
All that said, Kerry Pollack (Wireless Wizardry) makes great items. John said it in another reply here. I use WW items...the cassette prediction is awesome, the D'Mug is great, and my ShowTech makes life a LOT easier for performances. Steve Thomas |

The setting up the balloons in either sidekick or comedy card in balloon is not esy. Some may find the set up difficult. Depending upon your performacne venue, you may also want to consider Chance Wolf's Card in Balloon. It is geared more to children and does not use any electronics and it makes for a nice presentation. As the above posts mentioned, I would also be weary of using "guns." I have sidekick II where I can use a wand instead.
Best regards, Michael

I have had WW Card in Balloon! Loved it... but the set-up took awhile... So, I sold it and bought Wolf's Magic Balloon Wand! I use this in every kid show. I also own CW's Jumbo Sidekick I (one of the first) and use it in just about every adult show... with the gun. As far as the gun... I think it greatly depends on your presentation and patter. As far as which one to get... it simply depends on how and for who you plan on using it. Each has it's positives and negatives.

Oh, by the way... as far as the ProViper. I would never do an adult show without the ProViper! It plays wonderful! I would say it's the one prop I wouldn't do without! I have used it for kid shows, too. It does scare people... but it's a fun-kind-of-scare. They love it! I normally have to wait quite a while for the laughter to die down before I can pick up the snake to reveal the card. I also own CW's Kyhber Kobra! I use this one for most kid shows. The kids love it!

I agree with dking66. Proviper is a fun effect. It will scare (in a good way like a rollercoaster) people and it is a good effect as well and is easy to set up too.

I love my ProViper! I've never failed to get a great response from it. One time, doing a show for 300 students (4 yrs through 10th grade) every one of them jumped when the snake popped out.
The very first time I did it was for a small party in someone's home - three people literally threw their plates in the air and food went everywhere. There was a five minute "delay" in the show while people laughed about it and "recovered" from it. I was hooked after that. The ProViper is in almost every show I do. That said - I really like Jumbo Sidekick as well. I don't own it, but I've borrowed and used a friend's before and it gets a great response as well. I saw a great presentation for it once at the Castle with a guy doing "gun-slinging" before and dressing up the volunteer in a western style costume before them shooting at the table. I think Sidekick is stronger if you have a good routine around it. Of course, it's all about presentation no matter what you're doing... |

But I think that the viper has more of stronger, immediate impact than sidekick which is more drawn out. But both a good effects.

Magicinsight...you mentioned the set up of the balloons in the Sidekick and the Card in Balloon. There is no balloon involved in the Sidekick. At least not mine...right?

Steve,
You are correct. I was thinking about the regular tray method but I also had sidekick on my mind. I still like Wolf's card in balloon wand better than the electronic model(s). I also like sidekick II where you ahve an option of usign a wand as opposed to using gun to activate the effect. Thank you for the correction. Best regards, Michael

I would be happy with either a Pro Viper II or a Sidekick II. Someday I would like to own both of these.

I would love the Sike-Kick, but it is a little pricy and from what I heard a little finnicy, (malfunctions occasioally)
One os the single best buys I've ever made was Terry's Pro Viper II. The ads are pretty much on target on the audience reaction. I've increaded it by putting a magnetic swith in it which turns on a vibrator toy and the basket shakes. I have the volunteer try to feed the snake a dead (fake) mouse, BANG.. the snake pops out everyone screams and the reaction is just plan powerful. I watched Terry Evanswood do Side-kick and his routine is powerful!

Dennis,
for those people out there who might be considering purchasing a Jumbo Sidekick II (with the remote AND sound operation functions)...I can't recommend it highly enough. It's not at all "finicky". I've used it for 10 years now, and the only time it ever malfunctioned was MY fault. I'd forgotten to move the switch (from the weekend's practice session) from SOUND to REMOTE. Long story, but let's just say that 3 foot balloon behind the stage exploded in the sun at exactly the right time. That let me know what was going on, and I quickly remedied the situation. My Khyber Kobra has malfunctioned once, my Power Chopper was notorious about mis-fires, my Gumball even jammed once...but the Jumbo Sidekick (along with Silver Odyssey and Time Odyssey) has never not operated exactly as it was supposed to. Dennis,
That sounds like an intriguing idea. I am very seriously considering a Pro Viper II. Your modifications would definetly add to the routine. Hats off to you for taking a really, good effect and coming up with a way to make it even better! If I get one, would you be willing to share the details of the modifications? Is the Pro Viper II the one everyone would recommend getting? Regan

I concur with the above post. Once you own a Pro Viper II, it is hard to exclude it from any stand-up show you do.
I have been very happy with the response that this trick gets. Failure rate has been absolutely 0. Works every time. |

Pro Viper II: simple to set up, simple to operate, always works, always gets strong reactions and easy to carry.

I have an original sidekick and it got very finnicky with me after a while. It has a way to set the sensitivity of the reaction to sound, but I couldn't get it to work after a while. I used a starter pistol with blanks that were too loud, in my opinion. I solved that by always putting sound protectors on the kids ears. The gun just isn't appropriate anymore.
I am thinking of seeing if the new folks at Collectors Workshop would take mine back and refit it for use with the rc wand. That sounds like a much better way to make everything happen. It is on my to-do list, now. The effect is great and had a strong audience reaction. |

What is the difference between the Pro Viper II and the standard Viper?
