Hello folks. Daniel GreenWolf, your faithful bard of the Ct area here, to give people the low-down of what went on during the Inner Circle of Bizarre Magick 13th Gathering in Cromwell, CT.

The theme was "Enter the sideshow, if you dare!" and our guest of honor was the phenominal Todd Robbins. But, lets go in order here...

Thursday, people came in and checked in. We sat in the hospitality room and said our greetings and "How've you beens" and the conversations started. Myself, getting into wonderful conversations about "What is the Essence of bizarre magick" and if "gospel magic is truly bizarre." Just made me tingle to speak with so many intelligent minds.

Friday, the festivities started at their usual "OH DEAR GOD WHY JOE WHY??" early hour. Joe Cabral, the Grand Magus of the ICBM started things off and introduced todd Robbins, who, from the very get go, had us all rolling in the aisles. Then came the first lecturer Charles Pecor.
Charles did a fantastic lecture on staging in magic including positioning on the stage and positioning of audience members and did so with wonderful demonstations.
Then came lunch and the search through the dealers' area, of which I was part. There were so many wonderous things there you knew this was no standard "convention."
After that, Docc Hilford lectured. Marvelous! A story that immediately stuck out in my mind was a story of a dream that morphed three times. Only to discover that the dreams were of the Kennedy Assassination, Gengus Khan (spelling?), and Jack the Ripper. Masterful. He is a very warm, intelligent and very humorous speaker and a nice guy to boot.
Then came the Works in Progress section. Where anyone can perform a piece 5 minutes or less and there were just some great performers. I felt blessed to be able to Emcee that event. Afterwards, I had a show to do but the next two events were explained to me.
The special event was a lecture on Ghost Hunting by Adrian Deery and Don "Vlad" Deich. Yes, real ghost hunting. All reports were positive as can be.
After that, Evil Dan of Trinity demonstrated the many leather wallets he makes more mentalist and magical purposes. This stuff is just unbelievable folks. Get in touch with him, check his stuff, and buy it. PLEASE.
Then it was onto the Hospitality suite where we yet again spoke into the wee hours of the morning.

Saturday opened with the Close Up show where Emcees Rigor & Mortis (Vlad & Adrian) came out in bat pajamas and Seseme Street's the count slippers. They did a ritual to cleanse the room with a egg... actually, one egg as the sacrifice and the rest for an omlette...no really.. you HAD to be there.
The rest of the show consisted of Bosco, William Darquehope, Tony Razzano, Evil Dan, Adrian Deery, Vlad, David London (a highlight for me) and Ed Solomon.

Then, after lunch came the Craig Dickson lecture. Craig is a fantstic, real-world thinker and takes many conventional ideas and turns them truly bizarre. His lecture made us remember that its okay to like the "mechanical" aspects like other magicians. Truly Delightful.

Then, after spending some time resting up for the evening, the dinner came. The Raddison always has decent food and they get it out fairly quickly (except for poor David London... sorry David!) but then came the STAGE SHOW!

After casting the circle, Joe spoke of past ICBM member Richard Wilson (many of us knew him as Dick Wilson) who was a wonderful guy and, when I was starting out in magic, was very kind to me. So I felt happy they paid tribute to him.

Todd Robbins took over at the Master of Ceremonies and the show took form.

Britanny Malatesta, David London, Bosco, Dr. Skevorkian (played by Joe Cabral), Charles Pecor, Professor Quacksilver, Kardor, Walt Anthony, Docc Hilford, and then our special guest, Todd Robbins. The show was truly a mixture of comedy, drama and everything in between. You had to be there to see it!

Then, (after another long night talking in the hospitality suite), came Sunday morning, where a precious few of us paid the extra 25 cents to see behind the curtain (actually $30). It was Todd Robbins teaching the secrets of the sideshow. Fire eating, fire breathing, walking on broken glass, sticking your hand in an animal trap, the human blockhead, sword swalloing, the history of the sideshow and the art of the outside talker (NEVER Barker) and much more. All done with a clarity and charm that got even the most squemish of us to participate to great delight. Here's three huzzahs to Todd for a great workshop!

And three huzzahs to the performers, the emcees, the lecturers, the vendors, all of the attendees, and Joe Cabral for making ICBM #13 another great year!

Here's to ICBM #14: The Women of Bizarre Magick next year!

-Respectfully and joyfully Submitted,
Daniel GreenWolf
-Much love,
