K - wish you asked yesterday, as I saw Thomas last night at the Castle and I could have asked him. Have you tried Hocus-Pocus or Bob Kohler?

Thanks a lot! Now one theoretical (or ideological) question: Is it better to buy goods directly from magicians or through retailers?
I mean, what would be the most deontological. What's the best? Do magicians get their share through retailers? Would they prefer dealing with shipment themselves?

What language is "deontological" ?
It varies. Some magicians like to sell direct so they make all the money. Retailers have to get a cut, usually 40-50% -- but they have overhead and advertising and need to make their profit. So, you just do what you think is best for all concerned.

Am I seeing it wrong, or is Mr. Wayne's coffee cup not available from any of these links?

I heard he is out of stock, and super busy on a huge billiard cue order for a custom cue or two... in the $20,000 each range, so making a couple of coffee cups is low on his priority right now.
There is another brand, with a conventional magnet system. I think http://www.stevensmagic.com has those. I have one and it is not bad at all.

The noun form "deontology" is defined as "Ethical theory concerned with duties and rights." The first time I read the above post containing the word "deontological", I thought it was a typo error. I had to run to the dictionary to look up its meaning. Now, to answer the poster's question. I'd rather order from the retailers. Some magicians who double as magic merchandisers have no merchant accounts except PayPal. Since PayPal does not service my country, there's no other option to pay for my order except through bank drafts. With the stringent foreign exchange regulations today imposed in the banking system (as part of the fight against international money laundering), buying/remitting payment for goods through the use of foreign denominated bank drafts is the kind of hassle I don't want to go into. Dealers, on the other hand, accept almost all types of credit cards, and therefore easier to transact with when it comes to online payment. Also, magicians who sell their own goods may not be as quick as dealers when it comes to shipping the order. When you place an order while the magician is on the road (say, he's on a five-day swing across several states), he cannot possibly ship your stuff, unless he has a hired help back home to do it for him while he is away. What this means is that it will take several days before the magician-cum-dealer can ship your purchases, as opposed to the next-day shipping policy of most established dealers. I saw Thomas Wayne at the Bob Sheets lecture today, and he told me a new stock of his great coffee cup chop mugs is in the pipeline and should be available very soon.
Man, you gotta see him do "Just IN Case" with his KF holdout! Owwwwwwwww I wish I had one.

I have both. The only difference is in the magnet system. The effect and the look of the cups are pretty similar. Neither is BAD. They are just different.

What irks me is when I'm doing the bounce/no bounce balls and I explain to bounce them on the TABLE and even demonstrate by bouncing it on the TABLE and they feel the need to go out of there way to lean toward the close-up mat so they can bounce it on the mat after all that. Doesn't happen very often but has a couple of times and a no-bounce ball will actually bounce (probably about as much as a bounce ball?) on a close-up mat. I just think to myself, "Don't use this idiot as a volunteer again," as I smile and say, why don't you bounce it on the table, that may help get some more height...then, of course, look shocked when it stops dead.

Don't let yourself off too easy. There are no idiot volunteers, in this sense. It's always something you can do better in presentation.

Ok, how did we go from the mini chop cup to
bounce/no bounce balls? Any way I am awaiting delivery of the Riser mini chop cup combo set. Wonder how much different they will be compared to my Morrisey cup? |
