Has anyone here gotten Greg Arce's new downloadable effect?
I got to see an early version of it, and really liked it. It is a very strong version of bank nite using CLEAR plastic bags. I liked it a lot and it gave me a bunch of ideas. Greg liked one of my ideas enough to include it as a bonus in the e-book. Lincoln

Thanks, Lincoln.
I'm starting to have fun with this because some of the owners are now coming up with other handlings & presentations... always a cool thing to see. Here's more info on it: Well, I'm putting out another downloadable effect via a PDF. I was originally going to package it with the proper items and sell it for about $30... or more, as some suggested... but once again I'm lazy and I feel anyone get put this effect together for a few bucks. It is a very weird Bank Nite effect with a new, yet old, method to do it. Here's what some have already said about: "Greg, this is ****ing great! I think it's great lateral thinking. I like it when old magic principles are applied to mentalism effects and take on a new life. I also love the idea of billet work and a clear bag, has my gears turning. " -- John Riggs "I think you have yet another winner here! In fact, all the participants win here! This routine certainly overcomes many of the problems with a standard Bank Nite routine and leaves you as clean as necessary at the end with no thumbtip to ditch." -- Millard Longman "Greg Arce obviously has too much time on his hands. His latest effort, a sneaky Bank Nite effect using transparent plastic bags is, to my knowledge, original. The e-book instructions are clear, concise and should have users up and running in no time. Like many of Greg's efforts I heartily endorse his latest brainfood for magicians and mentalists." -- Larry Becker "Read right through the routine. Great idea! I *really* like the idea of "seeing but not knowing" the bills inside the bags." -- Michael Sibbernsen "Very nice idea!!! Not too difficult and looks very deceptive." -- Tony Razzano I will be selling only 150 of these downloadable files that explain how to make this up yourself. They sell for $12 and you can do that at PayPal using my email: greg@wizmicro.com Greg Arce

Lincoln, c'mon.
This has got to be one of the most powerful bank nite effects ever created. Now, there's a lot of talent on this board -- and I'm sure some of you can work out a way to do this without buying Greg's instructions. HOWEVER, Greg's come up with a couple of things that totally obliterate the obvious. If you work out your own version, then see his versions, you'll be fooled. Badly. Think about it: clear bags. You buy these at Staples or your local office supplier. Everyone sees everything the entire time. They can all see inside the bags -- even as they/you pull the thing out... yet, the bag you have at the end always has your "closer" billet/paper/whatever. AND, you're as clean as you want to be at the end. (Seriously!) "Greg, this is ****ing great!" Folks, this quote came from John Riggs. If Riggs is saying this about Clear Nite, then I can promise that you have no idea how amazing this thing really is. And 12 bucks. My toothbrush cost more than that. |

Thanks, guys.
It is a little shocking to see such a simple idea take on a life of its own. For the first time I thought, "Why didn't I think of that?" then I realized... I did! It is a fun method to play with. I first kept doing it in the mirror and saying, "This actually looks like what it's suppose to be!" I know that's a weird statement, but those that now have it know what I mean. Keep me posted as I'm sure you guys will come up with other applications for this. Greg P.S. C'mon, Procyonrising... you know you buy some terribly expensive toothbrushes so that's not a fair analogy.

I should add here that the sick part about Clear Nite is that you can set it up so you borrow everything. It can be totally impromptu. And, before someone asks, that's 100% impromptu. Some of you will argue 99%, but I assure you, you can work out a 100% version. |

Wow, pro... that's an interesting premise. As long as you have the bags you can borrow six bills and fold them up and put them in the bag, but first you mark one bill by writing with a large marker on it "WINNER"
Now you mix the bags and have them pick... you, of course, end up with the bag that has the WINNER bill. See, that's why I put this stuff out there... it's these ideas that keep making things better & better. I'm sure those that now have Clear Nite will be able to figure out how to do the routine above. Greg We are continuing to get various other handlings & presentations using the Clear Nite method. I'm shocked at how creative you guys are. I've already been told by one of the guys that I should seriously consider writing up an extended booklet with all the ideas. I'll continue to collect the presentations and ideas, if you want to be include in this possible future booklet then send them my way. If this comes to pass then I will offer the booklet to the original owners at a price minus the initial payment of Clear Nite. This is all a work in progress so I'll keep everyone posted, but I'm really fascinated by the various permutations that have already been invented. Greg

Greg,
You know, I was thinking about the impromptu handling I sent over to you and thought, if you switched out one of the borrowed bills, you can do a serial number thing too. (You can probably do it as an aside, where you point out that one of the bills isn't folded tightly enough.) |

I do a psychometry routine in my kids show using clear bags and...the kids' socks!!!
Lots of fun Would Clear Nite work for a psychometry plot (matching contents of all bags to owners of contents) or is it especially for the Bank Night (find the right one) plot? - Greg Owen

I don't think so.
However, I should say here that I've always thought psychometry should do away with the bags altogether and the reader should just pick up objects and read for the owner. |

By the way, for those that live in countries where the bills are different in color or size with each denomination, here is how you still use the method: You have five bills of any denomination you choose, but say one is the winner. The one you end up with is the only one that has the word WINNER printed on it. Greg

So to hand out bills to keep is an expensive business, I already have one where I cleanly burn a 50 kroner bill, but to hand out 5 (my salary must go up). And I think if you make people choose an envelope with money in, it should be theirs to keep. A way around it is to use Mavens Goldmine concept. Something like having yellow paperslips instead of money in the bags where 5 of them saying "Yours to keep, thanks for participating" and one saying "Mine". Jan |

You say that the person that gets the bill that has WINNER on it gets to keep it.

But then we are back to an old discussion of making everyone a winner. that's why Osterlind and Lee Earle hands out lottery tickets in their Bank Night effect - because they cheated the audience into not winning the money. I'm not in favour of handing out money just to take it back. First of all I trick the audience to take the "wrong" envelopes - clever fellow I am, and then I ask them to hand the money back. I think they will feel kind of "down" in that moment. that's the oppisite of what I aim to make them feel. Everybody should win. So in US currency countries I think giving everybody a 1 dollar bill and keeping the 100 dollar bill yourself is just perfect - everybody wins - beautifull - and even more beautiful with clear plastic bags. And this is a truely wonderfull variation - bingo - Greg you took this two steps further than the paper envelopes. But in Europe to write winner on 1 bill, and ask to get the rest back - only makes the performer a winner - and that's just not quite the same effect. So in countries where the different bills differ in colour, I would go for another option by using colored paperslips and not introducing money at all. But that all depends on what feeling we want to build in the audience. Jan |

Jan, I see your point. It's hard to always remember that when we deal with our bills here they are not the same as everywhere else.
I guess in that case I would switch to slips and the version the Maven has called Goal Mine where each spectator ends up with a slip that says YOURS and the performer ends with a slip that says MINE. Or, you can show a stack of coins and one of your higher bills. You then say that you will play a little game in which each person can win at least one coin, but one person can end up winning the large denomination bill. Now you do Clear Nite and the spectators open their slips and each has the word COIN on them so they get to take and keep one of the coins... your slip says BILL and you keep the high denomination bill... does that work for you?
