I'm thinking of using the Dancing Hankie as an opener, but I've never seen it performed. I've only seen the description of the routine at Hank Lee's Magic Factory. Has anyone used it and what do you think of it? Are there similar routines (zombie or other) that are as good or better?

I bought it but never used it. It is a great prop but I felt it was more suitable for a stage show and I usually do parlor shows. After weeks of practice I brought it to several show but always decided the situation wasn't right for it. The part I was worried about was the part where the silk dances in the bottle. It looks great but I was afraid they'd catch how it was done. I never used it and ended up selling it.
It's a very clever prop and is well made. The routine that Sean Bougonia does with it is beautiful. If you do stage shows and are willing to put in a lot of practise it could be great. If like me you do mostly parlor and living room shows you'd be better off with the Don Wayne Dancing Hanky for $35. You can do most of the moves and you can do it with the audience closer. I know I have posted this before but will do it again because his routine is brilliant. If you want to do an amazing dancing hanky routine that you can do surrounded in ANY condition then contact Wayne Rogers at http://www.magicnz.com
In one of his books (not sure if it's in print) he has a complete routine for the Don Wayne Dancing Hank. It starts off with the dancing hank (he has altered it so you can do it surrounded ... even at kids parties etc) then the hanky is put in a box and still dances in and out and then there is a finale to the routine. Wayne has been performing this for almost 30 years and is a killer routine. Wayne is famous for his appearing 'pole' products.

Comdey,
Your link is not correct! My advice is to get the Sean Bougonia version, $350 well spent and worth every cent to someone who wants to do real entertaining magic. The Don Wayne Dancing Hank is not $45 from most dealers. |

Hi ABM, Thanks for then link, but the dancing hanky doesn't appear on the product page, do you know where to find it?

It is on the products page. It is in his lecture notes. He does not sell the trick, but his routine and handling. It is listed in the notes as, Chicane’s Pranky-Plus: One person Dancing Hanky routine.
You still have to purchase your own Don Wayne Dancing Hank from a dealer, if you can find one. |

Is this routine (Wayne Rogers) for a Don Wayne Dancing Hank, or Don Wayne/Sean Bugonia Ultimate Dancing hank?
I sold my Ultimate as I don't do enough stage work to warrant that item. But I still have my Don Wayne Dancing Hank, and could use a nice routine for it. Never mind, I orderd the lecture notes anyway, as they sounded interesting, even if the hank routines isn't what I am looking for. Thanks for all the info. BroDavid

I've been using the Dancing Hank set by Sean Bogunia for 4 years now and from experience, I will tell you that this is best performed in a large stage setting. I've used it in birthday parties where the audience is quite close and it is also effective but not as much as performing it for a large crowd where the stage is deep. For maximum effect, I suggest the audience is about 15 feet away with or without the hank in bottle effect.

I assume this is a one-person effect?

Yes, it is Jim. I have no problems performing this with folks only 3 feet away.
I use the full package (All 3 pieces of apparatus) that Sean offers. |

Hello everyone, concerning the dancing hanky I also do a lot of parlor shows and I perform the dancing hanky every show depending on the conditions I may leave out some parts but I always do it, you cannot do Don's version any closer than you can do our combined version the dancing hanky does take a lot of practice but if you're willing to put in the practice your audience will let you know how much they like it. The only part of my dancing hanky were you need to be concerned if the audience can see a string is when the hanky is in the bottle and when I'm doing parlor shows I leave this part out. Even without the bottle move which I know is probably the best move you can still do a very good routine.

Sean,
The best part of the routine is the hank dancing on the floor. The bottle is good but the dancing on the floor is entertainment! |

My favorite part is the hanky jumping into the pocket. I do agree the floor move does get the kids going and the adults to.

Hi guys!
Gotta say, Sean Bogunia has the BEST dancing hank I've ever seen. If you want to do the dancing hank routine, forget everything that's gone before, save your money and get in touch with Sean. I am blown away by the unique aspect of this...the automation. A new level, so to speak. That said, if you ARE serious about this, learn the "dance"...the choreography...watch Sean...his hank "reacts' to him, and he reacts to it. They seem to play off each other. I laugh MAO every time I watch that video! I've never seen such animation, nor "excitement" level in a routine. This is not for everyone, obviously. I'd pull a neck muscle, or worse, cripple myself...but I sure love watching it! Best, Doug |

Thanks ABM for getting the webpage correct. No wonder Wayne had no correspondence about this:))
I am a HUGE fan of Seans dancing hanky and have his earliest versions. Just finished working with Murray Hatfield on a Canadian tour and he performed ALL of Seans hanky routines in one very cool routine. Having seen the reaction it gets you can see it's worth the money. When you think about how much an illusion costs and for a small amount you can get a great routine, all thought out and all you need is your personality then Seans Dancing Hank is a great investment for any performer. I have played around with the ancing hanky for many years and after all this time and effort am using Leon Mandrakes routine but that's an entirely different topic and method. I have seen Wayne Rogers perform his routine since I was eight years old. I'm now 36, so that's quite some time and it's always been my favourite routine in magic. His has designed it so you see absolutely no gimmick and he even performs it at Birthday parties. Now that's pretty close-up and under gruelling conditions:)) It all comes down to what you want to get out of the effect. For a great routine that you can get a lot of mileage from then using Seans products would be a way to go. As an opener (although fits in anywhere in the show) with a good little routine then certainly Wayne's version is great. My advice is for the small investment get Waynes lecture notes and read what he has to say about the effect. Cheers Paul Romhany http://www.chaplinmagic.com

Hi all,
I would have to agree, the Bogunia dancing hank is probably the best one man version. I use it frequently on stage, you can omit parts of his routine if you like and still you have a wonderful little act. If you are looking for an absolutely astonishing two man version (hidden assistant) that is overall THE best version to see as the silk goes in/out of a glass bottle, meets a "mate", has tiny silks (chilren), etc. I would highly refer Ralph Adams version. Mr. adams also has some wonderful ideas on black art. His video and booklet were available from Steven's Magic a few years back, check to see if still available. I was always fascinated with the floating ball routines. For this give Kenfusion a shot, his idea is very good and re-useable unlike Braco's version. I think Steve Dusheck's ballerina Hank, which Tenyo has the rights to, is pretty clever. Now, It's not in the class on of the Bogunia item, but it's a pack small, little miracle.
All depends on budget, style, venues played, etc.

SO I ordered and paid through Paypal for Wayne Rogers lecture notes as a pdf downloadable file to get his Dancing hank routine description. However, I didn't receive any access to a download area nor any file. I've mailed Mr. Rogers but haven't heard from him. Do anybody know if Wayne Rodgers is on the road an unable to answer?
