Does anyone have a killer ending they care to share for Roth's hanging coins, other than just scooping them out of the air?

I sometimes scoop the coins out of the air and then, after a beat or two, scoop the HOOKS out of the air as well! This is always a surprise!

Roth also has a one at a time coin production from edge grip that you can use to reproduce the coins one at a time. It is in his book and video vol. 2.
The ending isn't as wild as the Jennings ending, but it is a different way to end than scooping coins. |

Yes, sorry, I meant to credit Larry--must've slipped my mind as I was writing. That is where I got the idea. Thanks, Thomas.

But on his video vol. 2 he does the scoop of all the coins. he does not re-produce them one at a time. he does have a different effect where he produces 4 coins via edge grip, however. maybe that's what dan's referring to.
by the way. On that video david roth said (the scoop) is the only ending you need. so i use that ending for every trick i do. even card tricks.

Gary Kurtz has a nice handling of this plot where he vanishes the last coin. Shows one hand empty, turns and shows the other hand empty, then does the scoop to get all the coins back. It's on his "Creating Magic" video, I'd assume it is also in the "Unexplainable Magic" book. |

There was a lot of talk about this when Roth's original routine was published, hence his comment about the scoop being "all that you need". You could consider:
The last coin, which is an odd coin, visibly becomes the first three, and the odd coin is produced from the air. The last coin is a small piece of sponge, and it "sucks up" the other coins (a Jonathan Townsend idea)and then the coins natually come back when the sponge is squeezed (just drop them out of EG when you squeeze. It looks cool.)(my ending) A slight presentational shift: take the last coin in the hand that's not concealing the others. Make a sweep through the air with the free hand, but make no noise. Instead, make a loose fist and shake, saying that the coins need to be "seeded", like a raincloud. Drop the visible coin in through the thumbhole, and all the coins drop out the bottom onto the table. That last one looks better if you do some sort of changeover aquitment first. If you don't have a favorite EG changeover, I know someone who does. Watch for the ads! Don't use one extra coin, use three. Make them Copper. The effect is that you hang the three silvers in the air, then cause the three coppers to change places with the silvers, one at a time. End by sweeping the coppers out of the air. You can do this entirely out of EG and entirely with Roth's techniques (see EG Wildcoin) or work it out of "Threefly" position by gettting "Palms of Steel 2" when it's released (hopefully next month) The "Hook" always seemed odd to me. How do you hook coins on a hook? I've always preferred the idea of an "invisible assistant" who makes the magic happen, but then must be tipped. The coins are made invisible, then slipped into his hand. At the end, you produce ??? (Don't know. I vanish the last coin) The last coin (you get the idea, the fourth coin could really be anything) is something that is destroyed during the reproduction of the three vanished coins. Like flashpaper, you flash it away, and the three coins reappear. (EZ handling: It's a folded packet of FP, once all three coins are gone, open it, showing drawings of the three coins--chalk outlines?--then flash the paper to repro) Or one of those party snappers. You burst the snapper, and the coins appear, apparently from inside. Or my current fave, Reed's sequence from "International Hanging Coins" in "Knucklebusters" (#3, I think): you only have three coins. Each is hung in the air, they are then gathered (invisibly)one-at-a-time, and then they reappear on the table in front of the spectator! For the full routine, produce the coins using "Fantasy to Reality" from Rune Klan's video, and hang and end with Reed's bit, telling the spectator that he should give it a try. After all, he's got the coins. Good question. I hope you saw something you liked.

Another idea is to further the effect of a coin inside a pencap. I use hanging coins on occasion. Having shown an audience a coin inside the pencap seconds previously, I then get the tabled pencap and produce the three coins from the pencap! They just saw me do it with one coin, then three!
Think about it!

Curtis,
I am not sure who idea this is but I use chinese coins and talk about the hole in the middle being there for a reason. For hanging the coins on an "invisble hook". Then at the end I produce the hook much like Scott suggested, I then place the coins "back" onto the hook and pocket everything. It really seems to bring reason to such an abstract idea. Nice approach, Brent. It makes theillusion easier to "see" and adds a little more importance to the coins.
On a related note, I once thought it'd be fun to set up IT for the "Floating bill", and then write myself a note on a little Post-it, tear it off, and then just stick it to the air. You might want to follow the "Hanging" by hanging a bill over the hook, and it suspends in the air.

hey, curtis. good idea.
i was just daydreaming about how to IT a coin as a kicker ending. I like the post-it idea. you can remind youself on the post-it where those darn hooks are! and i must say, scott, i read your hanging coins patter at coinvanish and thought it was a kick.

I "put the coins away" one at a time so there's only one hanging on the hook at the end. I ask a spectator (preferably a woman) to hold out her hand, I pluck the invisible coin off the hook, place it in her hand, and close her fingers around it. "Here, you can keep this one as a souvenir. Whatever you do, don't drop it, because you'll never find it again." I've had women come back several minutes later still believing that the coin was going to materialize in their hand!

That handling (boldly putting the coins one by one into a pocket within the routine and handing out an invisible coin at the end is how "The Hook Revisited" reads from Doug Brewer's "Unexpected Visitor" book. It is a great one.
I have a quick clip of me performing that very same ending in my Bahama Magic video clip on my website. |

I added the idea of handing out the final coin and the line about not dropping it; does Doug really have that in the book? If so, he either came up with it independently (hardly a surprise: he's pretty clever, that Doug!) or I mentioned it to him and have forgotten (also not surprising!). |

I was talking about the handling only. - not the line "don't drop it".
I say something about it being very valuable, so don't lose it. Usually the spectator looks at his hand blankly wondering - did I allready lose it? :) |

This just struck me after reading the two previous posts. Wouldn't this be a cool time to produce one coin off the top of your head, as popularized by Michael Ammar and Brian Gillis? You've already put two away, and you have the spectator cup her hands. You fiddle with the last one,and it drops into her hands. Or maybe it happens on the offbeat?

I've been using the Hanging Coins routine with Copenetro for years. I use an odd coin (Chinese or some other magic 'orb') and vanish the three coins. I then place the orb in the copenetro glass where the coins reappear one at a time.
