Steve Bedwell has a brief rope routine
on his No M.D. Required video.

He does a great restore that has me stumpped.
Has anyone seen this.

Is there a published solution for this restoration?
I cannot figure it out.

It is by far the cleanest restoration I've ever seen.

Frank

p.s. That video is excellent by the way.

This isn't his "In Over Your Head" routine, is it?

I saw him perform it at the Castle and it's a killer. I'm sure more than a few performers stole the idea that night, and the other six nights he was in the Parlour.

I, at least, bought his book.

Yes, please do. If you can figure it out from watching the video, I'll...
I'll...
I'll...
I'll do something.

I'm telling you the ends "melt away".
They're gone, I tell you. GONE!!!!

He holds the rope with just his thumbs.

GONE!!!!

Bill, I'm getting this book. Why didn't you tell me about this before???? What else are you hiding???

The routine he does on the video is very short. I believe he demonstrated it just to show the use of a gag. He does not discuss the rope routine on the video.
At least, not that I've seen.

I'm in the middle of collecting rope media (are books media?) and this is something I just noticed this morning by accident. Thought I'd watch subtle travlers and up came the rope routine. Wow.

It pays to turn on the VCR while you're getting dressed in the morning.

Yeah, me too but he doesn't explain the rope routine on the video.

I'm hoping that it's explained in his booklet which I'll be picking up in 20 mintes.

I'm also hoping that the rope is not "special".

I'm stumped.

Doesn't he explain it on his "Taped!" video. That's the one he shot it right after he won the IBM gold cups. At the taping, he did the rope routine before going into the hat, tapes and walkman routine so I'm assuming he taught it all.

BTW - in the course of one of his routines he did a card to card box that involved a shuttle pass. Mike had him stick the card in the box and dump it out for the cameras so he could edit it together and make the performance look even more impossible.

The rope routine on M.D. is not explain. The routine on "Taped" is a different routine.

I talked with Steve about the routine (The One on M.D.)
As far as I know Steve hasn't released his handling yet so the only thing I'm going to say is the method is very old.

Best,
Joe

I can't imagine Steve Bedwell ever specifically revealing the method he uses as it's not his method. As Joe states above, the "general" method is very old, but the specific handling he's using is not very old and it's not his to share.

Larry D.

P.S. - It's a good video!

Well how come Larry and Joe know it and I'm stuck wondering. Does this mean I'm not in the club?

Joe, I'm holding 8 "you know what's" hostage until I get answers....

Actually, I'm not wondering as much as I used to be. But I won't say why.

I picked up "In Over Your head" today.
I'm picking up "Taped" tomorrow.

Of course, I don't have any money anymore becuase Pete made me buy a camera. It wasn't my fault. What will I tell my wife? I also just realized she just told me to stop spending money 3 hours before the purchase.

I haven't seen him doing it, but your description reminds me of good ol' Bill Neef's ropetrick..though I can't imagine that one would fool you..OTOH, it might Smile

I'm fooled by everything. Unless I do that effect, I'm often stumped, and honestly, I could care less.

On the other hand, I watched this frame by frame and the ends of the rope (the ones in the middle) melted away.

GONE. You know! Like Wooosh! That kind of gone!

Frank, notice is his right (or left hand) is kind of clenched around the rope in a fist..
IF he holds the rope at the tips of the fingers (more or less) with both hands, I have not idea then...
So far, it could be Bill Neefs ropebit, but OTOH a frame by frame observation should reveal it..

Frank... Not the 8 you know whata!!! they did nothing to you....lol

I don't know the exact handling just the "How to" of it was shared with me by Steve.

I THINK Larry and I talked a while back about this and I THINK he uses or use to use a simular method for one of his routines, Am I right about this Larry or was I talking with someone else...lol been so long I can't remeber Smile

I've seen Silvanos as well as Shigeo Takagis and I love it all..
Nevertheless I still stick to the 'classic', George Sands RopeSational, with the Ramsey ending using the 'knot'-stuff finishing with a whole length of rope out of that smal 'knot-piece'.
But, TBH, I haven't studied Shigeo's routine too much, no doubt it is GREAT!
(I'll reread it in his book though soon)

But you know how it is..one can't do it all, and when used to certain stuff, it sticks for life..

Joe, I don't remember if we talked about it, but I do use the same method.

Larry D.

P.S. - George Sands' Sandsational Rope routine and Shigeo Takagi's rope routine are fantastic.
