Did any one here can give some example of far out hits by the so called Talk To The Dead psychics?
I'm not talking about people moving out or a picture on the wall or... I'm talking about a kind of a hit that blowed you away! Any examples? Yaniv Deautsch |

Yes!
Will I share it on a public board? No! Why? Because if I were to share it I'd get pounced on by a dozen of so "open minded skeptics" and called a fool for believing it (and too close to the issue to see how it was done, etc.) I'll leave it this way... long before she became famous Sylvia Brown did physical therapy and volunteered at the L.A. Center for Living. While there I met her, got a neck rub from her and in the middle of this, she "tranced out" and conveyed some very interesting information that was dead on and there is absolutely NO WAY she could have gleaned it from any source or individual we held in common. In a conversation about 3 years or so ago with John Edward a similar situation occured and he lent some very impressive, very specific feedback that again, cannot be connected in any way. My call to him was not expected; no way to get info via the phone # (caller I.D.) in that I was not on "my phone"... the list goes on from there. Both of these individuals "passed" one of my personal "preliminary" tests. That's all I can say. They are amongst a list of about six individuals (out of the hundreds I've tested and met) that have ever done so. End of story!

I remember seeing a lady psychic on Larry King (wasn't Sylvia Brown) telling a woman caller that lost her father, about 2 special bushes in front of a house.
The lady confirmed that her father had planted 2 bushes in front of the house representing each of his daughters. James Randi was on that night to debunk her. He informed that it was a cold reading technique. Go figure. |

As I understand it Larry King put Randi on the spot due to some of the "questions" hanging around his supposed "legit challenge"... parameters of which take some of the control away from Randi.
Memory serving me right, I think Dick Cavett did this to Mr. R long ago, only to have him lose his temper and storm off the set vs. paying up... This should be very interesting.

I've stated here and on other forums that many of the stronger, deeply personal hits that Edward in particular gets, are very hard to explain. Even those with a knowledge of cold and hot reading technologies can't pin down what he's doing. Many say they can duplicate his act, but I've yet to see anyone who can come close.
I remain open-minded. At the very least, and even if he is just an incredibly talented fraud, he is boosting our art to a higher level. Mentalism hasn't infiltrated the public mind this powerfully since Geller. Quote:

I have found that practicing mentalism has sharpened my intuition to an amazing degree. This is something that is attested to by many successful, practicing mentalists. I've amazed myself a few times when something went wrong and I had to guess a name, card, number, whatever. Luck? Perhaps. But I've had too many personal experiences which attest to the possibility of psychic phenomena to write it all off as nonsense. At the very least, mentalists should try to be aware of research into psychic phenomena, if only to keep abreast of such things for patter and development of new effects.

Every mentalist should have an in depth understanding of what's currently working in the "legit" psychic arena.
Study Edwards at every opportunity, even if your toes curl. Go to your library and get Sylvia Brown audio programs. You'll be shocked at the wealth of ideas as well as prepared for all those inevitable questions. Even if you don't claim "the Power" (I dont)the ability to intelligently discuss paranormal topics has proved invaluable. Otherwise, dust off the chop cup and leave this schtick behind. |

The two of you bring out some very important and potently valid points. Mike, I can appreciate the shut-eye background and it explains a whole lot about why the two of us tend to agree on so much.
I'll toss out an interesting happenstance on the whole Charlatan issue that happened this past spring in Reno, NV. Seems the problem with predatory spiritualistic "healers" etc. had gotten so out of control that (you'll love this) THE LOCAL PSYCHICS HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE AND AWARNESS ACTION in order to explain the difference, what to look for, etc. To my knowledge none of the local magicians got involved (considering there's only about 6 full-time magicians in town and I was the only full-time mentalist... mental case Well... ) The point goes back to what I and others have expressed time and again (but keeps getting drowned out by the hard-core skeptics)... a middle ground exists. The "Believers" know of the fakes and frauds and just like the non-believer, wants to expose them, weed them out, etc. Anywho... I just wanted to give you guys a thumbs up

Appreciate the thumbs-up. That's the one thing I enjoy about the Magic Cafe... the wide range of intelligent opinion and discussion.
Has there ever been a publication for those in the "middle ground"? I think this would be a valuable thing -- effects, discussion of legitimate studies, pro- and con debate on psychic issues. All geared toward psychic entertainers and readers, without judgment or a debunker bias. I know that some mentalists, such as Ormond McGill, Bruce Bernstein, Ben Robinson, etc. have written things that go beyond traditional magician-think on psychic issues. Ben Robinson's CD on synchronicity is fascinating and well-produced. Hmmm.... if there isn't, I'm certain a quality publication would be well-received.

Yes. http://www.elementalent.com/oort.htm Although I'm currently out of stock of "The Collected OORT" (and won't be reprinting it until next year), the semi-quarterly newsletter continues to be published.

In my opinion, many are taken in by Frauds. Cold reading is as old as the hills. I do it as well as John Edwards, BUT I do it to entertain not to con people out of money.
Some great sites on cold reading are; 1.Click Here! 2.Click Here! 3.Click Here! 4.Click Here! 5.Click Here! 6.Click Here! Most magically yours, WR

I will hold to the same, when I hear such bold boasts. I'm dang good at Cold Readings and some consider what I've shared from my personal arsenal, devastating! Yet, seasoned pros that have seen my Q&A have walked away mumbling in their inability to figure out how I get so specific... few ever wanting to believe that "natural intuition" has anything to do with it.

I personally think that JE isn't a very good cold reader compared to others that I've seen.
One I think is called Collin Fry (he's from the UK and has a show called 6ixth Sense on Living Tv). |

The "lady psychic" Jim Reynolds refers to was Rosemary Altea. His posting is a fine example of how selective memory can be when people remember readings. And by that I mean, his recollection is wholly inaccurate.
