I just noticed that this, the final volume is available at the Magic Pro Shop. I wonder if the first two will be reprinted?

I just got my copy in the mail, and am still reading through it, but still the same general interesting items as the first go around.
You can still get the large hardbound volume that holds the first and second parts, check the book suppliers, there are still a few copies out there.

Who is the book supplier? I asked my local magic shop to order it for me but the vendors had no idea whether my order was made or not...

Were the first two volumes released as well? Any hints as where I may find them?

Yes they were originally published in two volumes, but reprinted in a giant volume that comprised 1 & 2 together. You still see that one around in some online stores and eBay. I have an original Volume 3, they came slipcased.

Rcad, the books do sell out and there are still a few to be had, I think you will need to search several magic sites in the book sections to find it, it is listed as the Compleate Invocation. I was lucky and bought my copy form ...myself, when we took over Bizarremagick.com, it was part of the inventory, and the second copy we had has been sold. Kaufmann might still have some, but I do not know for certain. Sorry I cannot be more specific, I recall searching for it and seeing copies availbale at several of the online shops.

If they sell so easily, why doesn't Kaufmann reprint them on a bigger scale?

Did Kaufman finally correct the Index in Volume 3? He seems to have missed the fact that I was a contributor - of a whole issue of stuff...

I got your PM... Thanks Kay, you are most helpful, as always! Smile

Just as I was looking into the info you gave me, my local magic got a copy! Believe it or not, I had asked the manager for it a few weeks before. I wasn't hearing from him, so I caught him in the shop on night and he finaly told me that it wasn't available.

The week after, there it was on the shelf. He never called me nor put it aside, at least to ask me if I wanted it. I go there and have been going there and buying stuff every week for more than a year since I am taking my magic courses there. I asked the employee why they never called me or waited for the next week to ask me if I wanted it... I was told that first come, first serve and that a sale is a sale...

I thought the shop handled my "order" very poorly.

Which brings up an unrelated but important topic: Should we encourage local magic shops over Internet shops?

I often buy on the Internet and came to be a loyal customer at Penguin.com among others. The service I received there met my highest standards. I am sure there are other Internet shops that are as good.

Now let me ask you all, why should we encourage brick and mortar shops?

Because we can see tricks performed before we buy them? Again, and I assure you that I am not being paid to say this Smile, I have seen more and better demonstrations on Penguin's website than at my local shop. Because I can get personalized service? Well, I simply didn't get any service at my local shop the last time, that's for sure! Because we should encourage an old tradition? I see no reason why I should encourage such a tradition if local shops can't live up to them.

I'm sure there are dedicated magic shop owners out there as there are poor Internet magic e-commerces as well but brick and mortar shops are on the extinction list, not Internet businesses. Any local magic shop should fight the Internet for survival... Why isn't it so?

Any thoughts?

Tony,

Thanks! That's been kind of an extremely minor thorn in my side for years. I tried to convince myself that Mr. Kaufman had made an honest mistake, but he is always so very careful about such things that I had a little trouble time convincing myself of that, but eventually decided the error was not worth worrying about.

It seems that it was an honest mistake and that is really good to know because I honestly could not imagine what else could have been the cause of such an error.

Therefore, I hereby apologize to Mr. Kaufman for every dark thought I might have entertained about that error and am delighted to see the book back in print! There is an immense amount of really good material in there, even the stuff that's not mine!
