As you should know by now, I try my best to post informantion that will enhance your kid show business.
I received the following email from Mark Daniel, the guy who runs KIDabra and has done schools and libraries full-time most of his life. When I got it I immediately requested the packet. In a day he sold 8 of the 25 he has. (I was the eighth!) "Successful Marketing in Action" I would call it. Here's that email: Quote:
Special Limited Offer: PS I'll let you guys know what I get when it comes in the mail. It will be interesting to know how it compares to the David Ginn "Promoting You and Me I & II" And Sammy Smith's Promotional Material, and the David Dee Stuff/Clones

Sure will Regan, however, Mark Daniel, as of this morning 12/2, only had two left so his promotional material will no longer be available.
Mark Daniel's package of promotional material spanned from 1991 to 2002. They included 10 years of (11x16) mailer (equals four 8.5x11 pages) His posters for that year, his logos, his envelops, his postcards, his newsletters, and the theme program he presented. It was nice to see the changes he made from 1991 to 2002, and how he used his testimonals. I am not done analyizing it, however, I am quick to pick up on his tecnique. Based on my experience and the material I extracted, I've come up with a powerful list of marketing pointers in your direct mail 4-page flyer: Did you grab the reader's attention immediately and instantly? Did you clearly and motivationally described each of the benefits which the school or library will obtain by using your program? Did you clearly indicated each item which the participants of the school or library will learn? Did you included testimonials and they are used in a convincing way? Did you have an "About You" and your practical experience and knowledge on the topic or theme? Have you described the program in such a way that participants will be able to visualize themselves making use of it in their school or library? Is your offer is plain, simple, easy to understand, and easy to respond to? Did you include your fee, registration, and payment procedures; your name, address, and tool free phone number; and similar information have been included on both the brochure and the reply mechanism (postcard)? Did you include, pictures, logos, and a call for action? Did you offer an incentive to call and book early? How have you made it easy for them to say, "Lets book this show this year?" You can find a lot of this information in expensive magic marketing books or go to your local bookstore and look into the business section and get books on Direct Mail Campaigns. Was this material worth it to me. Yes, because I could easily read betewen the lines and understand Mark Daniel's methods.

I got Mark Star's material but have not looked at the video yet!
Where Mark Daniels gives a progression of his brochures, he lacks (And told you this in advance) a write-up on his brochures. On the other hand, Mark Star gives you his promotional package with a video tape and describes how he developed and used each piece, including the faults in some but most importantly, why he did each piece the way he did. This is nice information and worth the purchase to me. Any marketing materials is good. Mark material reminded me of the two fantastic books David Gin Published, "Promoting You and Me I & II" The extra example reminded me of a David Dee method of selling. The material clearly said expensive and professional. If you want good examples of promotinal materials, then just get Mark Stars material or David Ginn's "Promoting You and Me II". If you are a mentalist or Hypnotist, then you might find the added package more to your liking. I am not disappointed in either purchase, however, I now realise I already have these concepts in David's Ginn's Excellent book. Now based on my seminar practice and guidelines for flyers and brochures, here a rule to follow: For each hundred dollars you charge then you should have an extra page. If you charge $400, then you need a 11 x 16 folded (four-sided) brochure. Postcards are the best for a fast and quick method to place what you do in their face. A single mailing is worst and a seven week campaign is perfect.

I am pretty sure that the Ginn book is long out of print. When I got one from him about a dozen years aog, it was issue #946 out of 983. But I could be wrong, so call him for confirmation.
But, I am happy to say that the Mark Starr material IS still available. I know ... I wrote it (thanks for the kind words, Den!) Regards, Mark "My Words" Nilsen |
