I'm not sure if I know the exact effect you are talking about. There is a dancing hank on the market that is also called ballerina hank. This effect has been around for a very long time and looks better on a video demo than in person.
There is alsos a dancing hank in bottle effect that I would not recommend to anyone. There is also a variety of dancing hank routines put out by Sean Bogunia (?). These effects incorporate both low and high tech ideas that, when combined, give you an amazing routine. Very expensive, but worth it if you are willing to put in the practice.

None of them involve low tech devices. Each of them involve electronics of some sort. I really think that you have never examined nor used one to suggest that which you have. |

Do a search for 'Don Wayne's Dancing Hank' and Waltzing Matilda.

The silk in bottle tht I mentioned is obviously very different than the one you may be talking about. It is not the one that is incorporated with Sean Bogunia's Ultimate Dancing Hank.
The one that I was talking about that I would not recommend to anyone is sold as a separate effect in itself by Daytona Magic for about $7.50. The degree of animation is extremely limited and easy for any spectator to figure out. It is completely low tech. Do not get this confused with the silk in bottle that forms part of Sean Bogunia's ultimate dancing hank routine. That is absolutely gorgeous. The Ultimate Dancing Hank is a high tech extension of the Don Wayne Dancing Hank and is well worth the money. The Impossible Hank from Sean Bogunia is electronically controlled and allows for the hank to dance while sitting on your shoulder or some other object. It is completely programmable for up to two minutes and can be activated with a remote control. The Animation Sensation from Sean Bogunia is also a high tech animation of the silk. The magician can have the silk pop up from behind a brief case and dance around at his command. The only other dancing hank I know of is the modernized version of Waltzing Matilda which is currently marketed as the Ballerina Hank. As stated previously, it is a low tech gimmick. It does allow for some very visual animation, but is probably best done at a distance. The new Ballerina Hank allows the gimmick to move from hand to hand in a much easier fashion. Sorry to have gone into so much detail, but I felt I had to respond to the unfounded opinion expressed by a fellow member when he stated: "None of them involve low tech devices. Each of them involve electronics of some sort. I really think that you have never examined nor used one to suggest that which you have." ReyRey, I respect you as a member of the Café. I only reply to these posts in an attempt to help others. I do not want discussions to denigrate to an unprofessional level. If you take a look at my posts in the past, I have never misstated my experiences or opinions. That's just not the way I am. In fact, I own each and every one of these effects. I have used Sean's routine for the last year with tremendous audience response. The Hank in Bottle that I bought from Daytona continues to sit in my junk drawer. The Don Wayne Dancing Hank and the Ballerina Hank are used in those situations where I can't set up the full Bogunia routine. Thank you for your time. I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Ralph Adams Dancing Hank in Water Bottle has been on the market for years. It is low tech, requiring at least 2 assistants off stage. The manuscipt is sold by Abbott's Magic.
Less we not forget the great Harry Blackstone and Harry Blackstone Jr., who performed the Dancing Hank for more years then anyone. It is very low tech, again requiring assistants off stage. This is also available from Abbott's and the cabinet plans are available separately. They also make the cabinet for those that do not want to build it. Both these versions require a full stage set up, including lighting and backdrops. |

I'm not sure how it works but I'll find out when I purchase it but--
What are the stage requirements for the Bogunia routine Lighting and backdrop. How far does the audience have to be away from the magician Thank you David Welzman |

With Sean Bogunia's routine, you can have spectators pretty close and still not see anything suspicious. He personally performed the entire routine for me and I was only 8 feet away and I STILL couldn't see anything suspicious.

Just out of curiosity do you know which one Blackstone used for his?

Blackstone used his own routine and set up. See my post above. Manuscipt can be purchased from Abbott's Magic as well as the cabinet plans or the finished product. You will need a lot of assistants!

I have a ballerina hank & I love it. First of all, yes, it's about as low-tech as you can get. I use it in a table-hopping scenario in the evening with low lights, so it's all but undetectable. My faviorite routine(for kids) is this: After blowing a D'lite out of my nose, I need to wipe my nose, and retreive the BH from my vest. As soon as I give it a hearty blow, I 'blow it right out of my hands', and after some grabs & dodges, I end up chasing it away. NEVER fails to get laughs.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

I love the electric dancing hank found on
http://www.dancinghank.com (a video demo can be seen on the site) It is the Sean Bogunia and Don Wayne version ( the Ultimate Dancing Hank), its expernsive, but is one of the best purchases ive made as it fits into most situations. It can be performed without a backdrop, which is a great bonus. There are other types of dancing hank on the site, too. Including the Impossible Hank. George |

Although I don't have a Ballerina Hank yet, It is on my shopping list of effects to get this year. Would it be OK if I use this routine? My god, I about fell off my chair when I visualized this being done. I'm still laughing. That's HILARIOUS!!

This sequence needs a backdrop but is optional. If you don't want to include it, you still have enough sequences left for a well-rounded act. You can perform the Ultimate Dancing Hank in a parlor type show, but of course, you will be more comfortable performing it on a stage, a little farther from the audience. Leo Manila, Philippines |

What is the exact effect in ballerina hank plz. Can someone tell me ?. Is it the one where it pops out of your hand and just seem to lay around a little in the air. Like a dancing cane. Is it the same effect. Any suggestions would help.
Thank You |
