How many of you prefer to work at night? Having worked both, I prefer the night. Personally, I find audiences to be better in many ways at night.
I am aware that different pitches certainly have a different set of characteristics that would make the working time more preferable such as if the pitch is a tourist spot with foot traffic in the day or just a city where the social climate emerges in the evening. The latter is the case in my area. I certainly like the weather conditions better at night as they tend to make me feel less lethargic than performing under the sun. I am eager to hear your comments about where you work and how the time of day or night affects your overall experience. Jim |

I work exclusively at night, starting when the sun goes down till around 10ish. This is because of my thread work.

I would think that most people would be more accepting of an entertainer at night. As opposed to someone who passes the hat around during the day.

Charlottesville has this great thing called Fridays after Five. Every Friday, go figure, after five o'clock, uh whatever, in the spring, summer and fall there's a concert at one end of the pedestrian shopping area. Usually burnt out bands from the seventies and beatles or dead cover bands. Crowds start gathering around 4:00.
Masses of people out, a busker's dream come true. Til about 7;30 or 8:00, that is, when the beer has been flowing too long. Although there are still quite a few families out then checking things out. I usually pack it in around 9:00. Other nights I tend to avoid. Weekend days are good too. Spring and fall are good for day shows. Summer gets to humid to breathe. Mark

This time of year, I prefer days because it's gotten cold out here--especially when the sun leaves. I don't like the sun beating down on me in the summer though. Shade is nice. Also, I have to position myself so the sun is in my eyes and not the crowd's eyes.

Oh, my friend we're older but no wiser, for in our hearts the dreams are still the same...
