I don't own this but I would like to say that while JB Magic has used a lot of elastic, rubber hinges and the like I don't think that in itself makes for a bad trick. I find it amazing all the praise that went to Matchbox for not using those methods ( although it does use a Mag Card ) and yet the trick in my opinion isn't all that. Drawn Out, which has received more than it's fair share of criticism is a far more visual effect and far easier thanks to another kind of gaff. Blink is another example of a card that uses a gaff that makes card changes easy for the beginner and more visual for the learned. I can't see how something being mis-indexed makes it better in that you would still need to switch it out if you were to have it examined. David Regal loves the Rough and Smooth and yet magic creators go out of their way to produce things that don't use this method to impress magicians even though often times those NO Rough and Smooth effects could sure use some Rough and Smooth. I guess the mis-indexed cards may last longer but in my humble opinion give me gaffs of rubber, shim cards too, I love them all, even Rough and Smooth, I think to myself what a wonderful JB Magic World. Okay enough singing, I feel we should try to dazzle lay spectators and in doing so if we fool the occasional magician great but if not it is the average spectator paying the bills. This trick may even use mis-indexed cards but I know itf it is made by JB Magic it will get a closer look by me.

If the magician deals 2 normal cards face down and *******cards are dealt on top,
if spread one way, they can be shown as mixed. The opposite way they can be shown perfectly seperated. Spectator can over hand shuffle not riffle. Thoughts? How much is 30L in US dollars? Then again, this effect will show up on EBay. |

Unfortunately I do not have a video of the effect. I believe Mark Mason will produce one for JBTV in the New Year. The deck can be over hand and riffle shuffled. I would sincerely like to see a constructive review from someone who owns Perfect World. Thanks IanB |

Yes, could be riffled shuffles as long as orientation is not messed up.
Some people cut a deck and riffle shuffle.Others my rotate cards 180 degrees. Could cause a problem. Think of riffle shuffling a stripper deck. Again, the effect seems SUPER. On the other hand, the same outcome can be done with normal decks. |

Thanks magicman1593
Glad you like it !! JSBLOOM Not sure of the purpose of you posts? Do you own Perfect World? If so can you give constructive feedback? If not, perhaps you should limit your comments until you do. I think it would be extremely rare for someone to 180 degree turn a portion of the deck during a riffle shuffle? Tabled riffle almost no way. In the hands; well unless someone couldn't do it properly (but then why would they try?) then virtually no way? The deck can be no more examined than an "invisible" or "brainwave" deck. How often do magicians get asked for those decks to be examined / shuffled? Both "invisible" and "brainwave" can be achieved with "normal" decks but does that make them any better or worse. I guess it's just a matter of personal choice and your ability to routine effects with strong audience management? Anyway, back to the original thread .... I would love to see more comments from anyone who owns or has seen the effect performed. Thanks IanB |

And what if the rare happens?
What are you going to do about it? I am happy you like your trick with gaffed cards. Almost everyone knows OOTW is the greatest card trick per the mathematical odds. It is virtually impossible to happen. It is great they came up with an idea to eliminate some moves, but ofcourse, there will be drawbacks like..... what else are you going to do with the deck? Yes, it is a personal choice. You have made yours and I have made mine. |

If this is Ian's I have no doubt it is good, he is an award winning, experienced performer and a good thinker.
Dean Dill also has a version of this classic about to be released. If you already have a favourite version that fools people, then you need neither. If the effect IS part of your regular working repertoire then they are both worth investigating. Paul. |

Ian asks for constructive reviews from those who actually have the trick.
I've made my main posting on this on another thread (sorry!). My main gripe is with the way the thing is marketed. Which isn't Ian's fault. The demo claims four times it is a regular deck. It isn't. But also - and I'm indebted to Peter Duffie for pointing this out - at the end of the demo it is emphasised that no switching is required. This also is not true - you end up in the same situation as you do in the regular OOTW, that one side is "wrong". I consider it completely improper to market magic like this. So - I agree with Ian - that the only worthwhile reviews of this trick can only come from those who have purchased it. In short, the only benefit of this approach is being able to show the cards mixed to begin with. But there is already a popular approach which begins with a shuffled pack (Lorayne and JC Wagner immediately spring to mind) So you have what seems to be a very minor benefit, but with a major drawback - you can't use the pack for anything else. |
