I brought this up when this site was shut down, but I play the saxophone and I was wondering if any one had any ideas where I can interact the sax with magic?

The obvious one would be a snake basket routine.

Can it be used in a "zombie" effect? You might have to use a fake sax due to weight issues, though.
Or, do a zombie ball with the assistant/partner doing the illusion and you playing. A false jumbo sax could be used for a suspension illusion (they use guitars for it now). |

Play a brief interlude on the sax...
then put it in a stand so everyone can see it. when the sax starts playing by itself (pre-recorded music), you investigate and pull out a foam musical note out of the bell. that stops the music. until it starts again and you pull another, and so on. turn it into a manipulation routine with the saxophone taking on a life of its own. just a thought! --Michael |

Be careful of the zombie effect it is very close to the famous floating violin of Neil Foster fame, and would be seen as a copy of a famous routine.

Good Point Frank.
Another Idea I had was possibly a variation the "snowstorm in china" effect using bubbles (what else with a sax ) |

Appearing pole from a sax that has problems playing the right note.
You bought it before you got married so it is a "Pre marital Sax". For adults put a condon on it before you play it. "Safe Sax. Rig a fake sax for muluiple production that relate to the music - Raindrops or roses and wiskers on kittens - that sort of thing. Play some hot jaz and have it melt. HTH Paula

Since we are in the sax pun mode, you can always mention the floating violin and note that, yes there is sax and violins in magic.

I used to mess with making mine appear. Start with a large foulard in hand and the sax hanging on your back from with neck strap.
The rest should be self explanitory. -Chris.

Kyle,
What can't one do with a sax? You could play the sax, hit a bad note, then spend the rest of the act chasing the gremlins away. It's big and flashy and could act as a powerful "magic wand" for misdirection. As an example, you might wear sunglasses... they fall into the sax, you can't get them out. Yet, you retrieve other items enough to fill the stage (socks, shoes, birds, mice, water, silks, etc..). At the end of the act your sunglasses are on top of your head. For the record Norm Nielson does the floating violin. Cheers, kregg

If you want to do a Zombie effect with it, just contact Norm. Since it really is a different effect (well, different instrument), I don't think he'd have a problem with you doing it. He's a very nice, approachable person and I'm sure he'd give you his blessing on it.
