I am working on a trick that involves double lifting and turning over large animal cards. I know how to do such a lift with a regular deck. Any advice on how to make this look good with the larger cards?

Is it who's who at the zoo, I have to do it one handed during my lion puppets rutine, I just simply pick up 2 and turn them over.

It is a variation--Pet Store Pranks. How do you
make them appear to be one card? Am I worrying too much? Flimnar

Clive, I'm very impressed that you do "Who's who " one-handed. Can you tell us more about how you handle the cards? You didn't give away a lot "Pick up 2 and turn them over" He,he, that's just the definition of a D.L.
Do you pick them off the stand or the table? Do you hold them by the top, side, bottom or corner? Do you feel for the break as you pick them up or do you rest your hand on the cards and make the break beforehand? (If you're anything like me you'll probably have to go and get the cards before you can answer those). Flimnar,I used to do who's who a while ago and have a version using dinosaurs in my second show. You don't have to worry too much as long as they can't plainly see 2 cards, it's not really a point in the routine that kids would naturally be suspicous of. I hold them by alternate corners, square them up, make the break whith my thumb while I'm making jokes about the monkey. Then turn them over using the top corner. I also think it's good to have a reason to turn them over I say that we're going to play a trick on the monkey then say "let's let the monkey talk to the lion while we decide what to do". I then go through a few options before deciding on disappearing him. George |

I think you are overthinking as a magician. When I do this, I just simply place my finger in the spot where the double cards are. It is easy to do as I put the first card from the front to the back. It is almost like a pinky break only using the finger from the side. Then when I get to the last animal that is correct, I am already set up as a double lift as there are two cards remaining above my finger break.
It really is simple and works every time. If you are afraid your cards are not even. Then I just simple square them up by tapping them on my leg before I show the next animal card. There is nothing to it and it works nicely. Also make the turn over in front of the other stack of cards you will be discarding, it gives some cover as well and it is far less movement to get the double card turned. Hope this helps. Kyle
