OK, I am willing to put the time into learning the Classic Pass, but I need a substitute to use during the months to years that it appears its going to take me to get it to a presentable level.
Is there another Pass technique that I might be able to master substantially faster than the Classic Pass? |

I would use the double undercut or turn over pass. Both much simpler than the Classic Pass to execute. Practice will still be necessary though but not nearly as much.

Try simple pass. It is in Hugard's "Encyclopedia of card tricks". You can learn it in 10 minutes.
Other passes require practise. |

Jay Sankey has a simple one called "The Sleeves Up Pass." I believe he teaches it on his dvd "45." Bill Malone also has a similar one he teaches on one of his "On the Loose" dvds. I'm not sure which volume, I'll have to check it out later.

Try the top gun control ( the Draun Shift) this is the fasted way to bring a selected card to the top of the pack. This can be done surronded, and can be masterd in a faction of the time. This control can be found in Steve Drauns underground book and my dvd Top Gun..send your e mail address and I will send a demo of the effect

Learn the Hermann pass, you have a lot more time, a lot less pressure and it'll put you in a good position to learn a good turnover and half pass.

Double Cut,Flip Flop Plop.If you want another pass,I recommend Turnover Pass or the Hermann Pass.

I started by using a double undercut followed by a face up O/H shuffle to keep the top card in place. Following that you could try 2 brilliant (and easy I may add) controls in the book - the Card Magic of LePaul i.e. the natural jog control and the automatic jog control (card replaced into a fan). This book is amazingly cheap and great value for money. It also has a nice chapter on LePauls Invisible Turnover Pass. Get the book!

Try the Stomp Pass (not sure if it exists in print anywhere). It's really just a classic pass with a stomp thrown in for mis-direction. Believe it or not I have witnessed several working magicians using this in their routines. Of course, that being said, other magicians and myself have always been in the crowd (obviously, or I wouldn't have witnessed it) so they may just be using it as an inside joke between us.

The side steal is an excellent alternative for the control of a single card.

I'll agree with Cameron here. The side steal really is the way to go.
