I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the Royal Road to Card Magic. Best one of the lot. I have hundreds of books on card magic but always come back to this one. Fully 50% of my repertoire comes from here.

To be an entertaining card magician this really is all you need. It is worth it if only for the little tips on patter and presentation.

Glad to see 2 posts for The Card Magic of Nick Trost.I have many card books and this is my favorite as he relies on sublety as opposed to sleights and the effects on the spectators are awesome.Great card book....

An introductory text I like a lot, and not too hard to locate, is Bill Turner's HOW TO DO TRICKS WITH CARDS, originally published as THE CARD WIZARD. Henry Hay penned an introduction, saying this was the book he had planned to write, 'nuff said!

I just purchased "Bound to Please" by Simon Aronson. It is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read. All the work is real "thinking man" stuff. You can tell just by the ideas that Simon Aronson really puts a lot of thought into his work.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler
