I do not like that normal patter for oil and water routines. The audience never has the same intrest when I do this effect compared to other effects. They always seem board and the idea of a trick based on oil and water not mixing it not exciting. I believe it takes away from the effect.

Does anyone else know any alternative patter?
Or can anyone think of something more exciting than oil and water?

(I perform Hollingworth's Oil and water and I am also thinking about performing David Ben's)

I used to use the Tamariz routine from The Magic Way, with plain black spot cards and red court cards for contrast.

My theme was Peasants and Royalty. In the first phase, the Royalty (red cards) rise to the top. But in the second phase there's a surprise: a Peasant uprising!

Perhaps you can come up with something even better.

Although I don't think the Middle Ages theme is right for me, I like the idea of using court cards and them representing some type of higher class, or they repretent something better. Pesents and Kings aren't the type of patter that is right for me but you helped me get on the right track.

Ronnie: What book or video is Lovell's oil and water routine from? Could you briefly describe the idea of the patter?

I used to do a short O&W with 8 cards. 4 red, 4 black.
My patter was about how I was a tidy guy who always hung his shirts in one end of the closet and pants on the other.
Mysteriously, and in a very short period ot time, the shirts would end up mixed in with my pants.

I took this from something Johnny Carson said about how clothes hangers always end up all tangled up in closets.

Just an idea. Good luck.

How about the concept of good and evil.

Reality and BS.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.

My presentation is that I'm arranging the cards in a certain order and I can't understand how they keep rearranging themselves. It builds up through six phases.

A politically incorrect patter for oil and water.

there is a collectors item deck of cards out at the moment and it features famous terrorists; particularily from the middle east.

These cards would make a fine basis for a senstive and artistic version of oil and water - please sense the sarcasism
