I was at the kitchen table reading and was fiddling with my old dime and penny not paying attention...well the dime gaff got melded with the penny gaff wrong side out...now the bang cup won't release the two.
Any tips?? :-( Doug

Look up which of the metals, copper or silver, have the higher index of thermal expansion. This may be on the web. Immerse the two in hot (if shell has higher index) or cold water (if the insert has higher index). At the new temp, they should part easily.

Exellent ehands. Thank you!
Doug Checking...it may or may not work as the index is so close together... Copper (shell 9.4 per F degree) Silver (insert 10 per F degree) Will try though! edit: Oh well...neither worked. Phooey.

Doug,
Sorry, but my error reminds me of what someone said: 'Darn, another fine theory destroyed by an ugly fact!' Congratulations, however, your set may still be stuck, but you destroyed my idea with impressive speed.

Doug,
How do you normally separate them? If you have access to a brass bang ring, you can really put some serious force behind it. If that doesn't work, I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you're slow and careful you can put pressure on the center of the [ with your thumbs while pulling back on the edges with your fingers and create a slight bow in the [. That might pop the insert out. Going too fast of course could bend the [ in two... If neither of those work, I'm stumped. Barry

Normal seperation comes from a sharp rattle in a plastic cup.
Penny is too small to pop...for my big fingers anyway. Oh well. Phoeey X 2

Use a glass instead of a plastic cup...shake sharply and pause between shakes...hopefully this will work.
