Does anyone know of a reliable gem cutter who can fashion some rough gemstones into gems that can be used as pendulums (settings too)?
And... would anyone like to share what they've used to make their pendulums? (Not necessarily the impromptu or seemingly-impromptu variety, but if you've created something very beautiful to carry around with you, would you like to share ideas with me? PM or e-mail preferred, but if you want to do it here, that's okay too.) In advance, thanks. James. P.S. The reason I wholesaled uncut gemstones was because I couldn't find a suitable shape, cut, or weight anywhere... thus, I'm doing it myself. |

Have you checked the selection at http://www.xeonixinc.com/? They have some very nice pendulums and charts.

Avocat, thanks for the great link.
I've seen most of their selection in other places, which leads me to believe we're all buying from the same wholesaler overseas. What I'm trying to do with mine is create something unique. I'm thinking custom platinum trim and chain... a 30+ carat cut gemstone for the actual pendulum... maybe a round-cut emerald as the "handle." All precious gemstones and platinum/gold; no semi-precious stones or crystals. Which leads me to another question... can anyone recommend a high-end custom jewelry maker who doesn't deal primarily with diamonds? (FYI: I tried buying 100 carat rough diamonds to cut to size... but finding one that can be cut into the shape I want while not having glaring inclusions is impossible to find--and I really tried!) I had a lot of a dozen or so quartz pendulums shipped to me, which I probably won't be using. If you know me and want one, PM me and I'll try to ship it out to you after the holidays. (If you look at the xeonixinc.com website, you'll see the exact same crystal pendulums--except these are clear quartz--for $14 plus shipping). Note: These are free to friends; I am not accepting any offers for purchase. |

I've been wanting to get some pendulums....all I ever use is a ring on a string.

Slightly on topic:
Crystal Chandeliers have a lot of nicely shaped drops that are perfect for pendulums...they're already drilled and everything...so for those looking for the perfect gemstone, go to your friendly neighborhood upscale thriftshop and look around...or Google it for chandelier replacement supplies...

Dan Del Bonta is San Francisco area magician and jeweler. I once spoke to him about a much smaller gem project (which never came to fruition). I could try to put you in touch with him, if someone from here (SF Area) would work out for you.

Greg, I mailed out a sample of what I've been working on your way. It's a swarovski crystal with a sterling chain and jeweled "handle." Totally custom, only one like it on the planet--and you own it. I also included one of the quartz pendulums I got in bulk for you to look at. Enjoy (and tell me what you think is right or wrong with it).
Update: found a gem-cutter in New York, all has worked out well. Couldn't find a really great jewelry maker/designer, so I went ahead and learned how to do it on my own (well, everything relevant to making pendulums...). Very easy to do, just takes some time and attention. |

The pendulum I use for my readings is solid brass and it's attached to a rawhide lace which looks pretty cool and very "earthy". Check out some of the gem hobby sites, I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for there.
