The truth about Saint Nicholas aka Santa Claus.

http://www.stnicholascenter.org/Brix?pageID=49

Saint Nicholas was the Bishop of Myra
Nicholas was Bishop of Myra in Asia Minor, the city now known as Demre, Turkey. Living his whole life centered on Jesus Christ, Nicholas worked for justice and cared for those in need.

Actually. St. Nicholas is not universal. In Greece, Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of the Hellenic Navy, which celebrates his feast day each year, and of sailors. He has nothing to do with Christmas: that's Saint Basil (Agios Vassilis) who arrives with the toys in a red suit on January 1st each year. The Greeks observe Christmas in a religious manner only and save the gift-giving until a week later.
