Everyone should look up People Power by British mentalist Andi Gladwin. It's in Magic this month and it's a great stage mindreading effect. Has anyone tried it? I did on Christmas day for my family and went down a treat.
Just a magic lovin dude

Yes, if someone could describe the effect that'd be great

Effect:
The mentalist invites 6 people on stage and after shaking their hand mentions that based solely on that hand shaking, he is going to predict all 6 spectators behaviors. A prediction is written. The spectators then take several character tests and everytime some spectators are eliminated and asked to join their seats. At the very end, one spectator remains on stage, the very one that was predicted by the mentalist. |

I am trying to construct a particular type of envelope to make this effect a little more convincing. I am using blank playing cards (with the instructions printed thereon) and the card placed inside manilla envelopes.
However, in order to make it appear that there is only ONE card in each envelope, I need to make a double ended envelope with a centre section so that when a card is removed it looks like the rest of the envelope is empty (A Himber envelope if you like) Trouble is, I can't quite get my head around it. Anyone got any ideas? (perhaps they are already in existence - I see it a quite a useful mentalists tool) Paul Harris's "One and Only" envelope is similar, but I need just TWO outs. Thanks Roger |

Roger:
I think Annemann's Practical Mental Magic has something like that, as well as one of Ted Lesley's videos (not the Teleport envelope). Also, one of Osterlind's ETMMM videos has something along those lines. |

Roger: Check out the Piatt envelope. Sounds like what you need.

Thanks guys - The Piatt does sound okay - but I need a few - it could work out expensive. Do they last a long time? In the meantime I'll dig out my Annemann!

Yes, the Piatts last a long time. You might need to invest in some repositional spray adhesive for the long haul, but the envelopes are nice. You could always just buy one set and then use it as a template to make your own.

Roger,
I've done the routine numerous times and printed the instructions on the cards using the computer. I kept the envelopes in a large manila envelope. If I needed the last envelope, I used it. If I didn't need it, I left it in the large envelope. I did make it a point to let a spectator look over my shoulder as I read it. I have never had any problem with having two cards in one envelope. Remember- Don't run when nobody is chasing you. Just put the emphasis on the card after you remove it. Gladwin's concept is a gem and is a great 'packs small, plays big' routine. Woodfield |

Cheers Woodfield. Yeah, I was pretty much aware of the 'dont bring attention to it' theory but, forever the perfectionist, I was merely trying to 'tidy' things up a bit.
I discussed it with Andi too and he offered some interesting thoughts. I'll try it both ways and see which one sticks. (Found two good examples courtesy of Messrs Annemann and Lesley to try out.) :) RK |

Does anyone know why Andi went for six spectators, and the resulting possibile extra envelope? Why not eight, and then you can state at the beginning exactly how many tests there will be?
Is THAT a PALMS OF STEEL 5 Banner I see? YARRRRGH! Please visit The Magic Bakery

Due to the methodology, the target person's actions determine if you need to go with the extra envelope. The way it's explained, there's a 2/3 chance that all
four envelopes will be used. I'm not sure adding more people will change that. I love the principle. It can be adapted to different types of presentations. I've used it in office settings where I took the photo IDs from the 6 people and placed one unseen (as my prediction) in the big envelope that also contains the instruction envelopes. This plays strong. I've also used this with Docc Hilford's Balloon Hat Game for a family celebration. What I'd like to kick around are other possible presentations ideas. Woodfield |

I've now adapted this effect using a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation for use in the classroom. I ran it past Andi Gladwin and he liked it.

I've used it and love it, btw you can change the effect a little so you use all 4 envelopes all the time, no matter what out come the forth envelope is always used. That way nothing is added or taken away. It is a very strong routien
