I am wanting to have a Steinmeyer's "Hospitality" built. Which builder (authorized) constructs a nice version of this? I'm sure several people have had this one made. Thanks!

We are the authorized builder of Hospitality.
We have built it for Doug Henning, Lance Burton and Luis DeMatos among others. Feel free to e-mail or PM me. Thanks - David Charvet http://www.charvetmagic.com |

I for one would speak highly of the craftsmanship of the Charvet Hospitality. Also made to be very portable.

I also have a Charvet (Thank you, David) Hospitality. Without giving anything away, I will say that I found a nice alternative to the lemonade powder used at the end. In the supermarket I found that they now sell juice concentrate either in the juice aisle or where they sell the drink mixes. This IS NOT frozen concentrate. It comes in a regular pop can and is about the consistency of maple syrup. When you add water to it, it disolves instantly, unlike powdered lemonade mix. I use the Mott's Applejuice concentrate and it works/tastes great.

Get "Modern art and Other Mysteries" by Jim Steinmeyer. 2 tricks are in the book, other than hospitality. A good ATA case maker can build a professional model.

I have the Charvet model of Hospitality and it's very nicely made. It's main advantage is that the entire prop packs well for travel.
If that's not a concern, I'd look into having one made that looks more like a serving cart, etc. I've seen those offered in the past, and the design makes a bit more sense....looking less like a "magician's table". But you can't go wrong with a Steinmeyer routine. |

I've seen his work and it is great. I believe I met him years ago with Kevin King. Tabman, if you're around, wasn't your wife a world class marksman and Olympic shooter?

Yes, if you buy the Steinmeyer book you are authorized to have one unit of anything in the book built for yourself.
I must also echo the glowing remarks an Carvet's version. It is well-thought-out to troupe and work. But I wanted to make the remark on the authorization to keep everything above board.

Daktari, you're right about all the above. Thanks. Have you seen KK lately? I haven't talked to him in a couple of years. I'm still building props here at the farm if you need me.

I had the great pleasure of handling the David Charvet built 'Hospitality' a couple of years ago for a young British magician called Steven Garrison who had purchased it directly from David. The reason for my handling was I had been asked to routine it for Steven which I did in the form of a game show. So it was necessary to handle the prop before scripting the routine's ideas & patter. It handled beautifully and simply, straight away. No snags. If you're going to purchase a prop like this then GO TO the 'official builder' who has the expertise and experience, That way you have professionalism and won't waste your money.

It's kind of a "Think a Drink" effect. Various different drinks are poured from a milk carton and passed out to the audience to drink. At the end, the milk carton is torn up and shown to be empty.
Not a great description, but it is basically it. Thanks, Richard |

With all due respect to David Charvet, I have reservations about an ATA style "tea cart" and always have. For trouping Mr. Charvet's piece is perfect. But from the dreaded logical standpoint, how and why would anyone (in real life) own a tea cart made in that style? What home or garden decor does that go with?
Again, it isn't about the effect- that is good. It isn't about Mr. Charvet's craftsmanship- that is great. In a lot of situations and effects the ATA style works. But a tea cart?

I think the idea of the Charvet style is the mini bar, or the bar set that you can buy. You know with all the shakers, and utensils inside. This is what I always took it to be.

I too respect David's workmanship. However if you purchase the Steinmeyer book , you have the right to make or have one unit made for your own use.
If it does not fit your decor, you could have someone construct something to your style. But since David has already done most of the R&D on making this, I doubt very much if it could be made any cheaper. Richard
