Hi, just wanted to know if you play any music prior to the start of the party.

I do, because I want to set the party mood before the party starts.

So far, I have been playing Vegaboys music, because the music is pretty party-like and neutral.

Do you play any other types of music? Let me know. I'm getting pretty bored with Vegaboys music after two years!

If I am doing a larger family or kids style show, I will oftentimes play cartoon tunes. These are cartoon music from a lot of the famous cartoons the kids can associate with. They are funny, and the kids love them and are familiar with the songs. It creates a nice atmosphere before the event starts.

Now during my show I use a lot of specialized styles of music. Since I am a jazz and contemporary jazz nut, I tend to find music that is not commonplace but has a great beat to it or that I just feel has a strong feeling to it that may be perfect for my musical opener or for other routines in the show. It works quite well as often most do not have lyrics that might interfere with the magic I am trying to portray.

One song that works great for me is a jazzed up version of Linus and Lucy. It is a fun and upbeat song that is lively enough for people to get into and I can do my drawing board intro to it.

Thanks for the info, Kyle. Do you have the MP3 of this music? Just a sample will do. Don't want to break the copyright law. Smile

I do not as I usually burn copies of my music to CD's for the various shows that I perform at, because I customize my festival show performance to the festivals I am working. I have a database online of the music for each routine as well as audience chaser music, voice overs, pre-show music, post show music and voice over intros. These are all in the jukebox database so that I can easily burn a CD in any order I choose for the show I plan on doing. It makes it much easier for me and anyone who may be running my wound at the larger events I do.

If I have to run the sound myself, I use my own sound system with an infrared remote that I can control from on stage. It works quite well for me.

I can give you some ideas of songs I have used or similar style of music. You may want to check out for yourself if that would be helpful. I have more Magic style music than I have routines for.

Sorry, I'm a little too fast in my typing. I'm looking for a sample music of 'Linus and Lucy' that you have mentioned.

Do you have it?

Yes, I do have that but not in a sample version. However, I am sure you can find a sample to listen to online by doing a search on Google.com or amazon.com. The song you want to type in and search for is called Linus and Lucy by David Benoit.

There are also other great songs on the album that this song is on. It is called "Happy Anniversary Charlie Brown by David Benoit.

This should help you find it or find samples from the album or the song itself. I use a lot of music in my performances and all the songs are very different and unique. I often get people asking me where I found the song, what song is it or where they can purchase some of the songs. The audiences get into the music and often times enjoy it as well.

Hope this helps.

Joseph,

If you like the Vengaboys, you might consider Aqua as an alternative.

As I mainly do two-hour parties, Party music is on as they arrive, usually the pop songs that have dance moves to them---i.e., The Ketchup song. Oops, Upside your Head, Hey Baby, The Fast Food Song, etc.

Selections from Leonid Brezhnev's funeral and The Planets "Bringer of Old Age"; Samuel Barber's "Adagio" gets everyone in party spirit!

No, sorry, I must learn to get more serious!

Music? Pre-recorded and edited tapes for cabaret marionettes.

Selections of kids disco numbers both on tape and CD.

My own recordings on electronic organ/piano of Happy Birthday (6 times with 5 second gaps). The Farmer's In The Den (Dell).

Various party favourites in the UK.

There are others that I'd not want to mention because of aggressive Copyright policy by certain companies. Although I only use them at PRIVATE parties.

Nice music plays whilst people arrive/while they have tea/whilst they are leaving (or at least up until I've packed everything away but the CD/tape unit). Oh, and also at very low volume level during balloon modeling. In fact, I'd emphasize the point of getting nice music playing ASAP when you arrive as it takes out any pre-party tensions.

Has any parent complained about music been too 'pop' or inappropriate?

Hi,

Sorry this made me laugh! Long time since I heard the word disco used.

Personally I tend to use the latest chart/clubland hits/r@b/urban hits
for games ext. I have had no one complain that the music is too modern, but I have heard them complain before about performers playing dated or naff music. By this I mean cheap mixes of popular songs.

I do not do action songs, but I do a similar thing where I put on music and they have to copy my actions/do as I say, and I het them to put a hand on someone's head while dancing, other hand on different person/s head. The whole thing ends up like a game of twister!

You say it's a long time since you heard the word disco Phillip.

But half the entertainers in the UK who do music advertise a 'mini-disco'!

HI,

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Just not a word you would use much anymore. If I said to most people I mix with "Are we going to the disco", they would take the **** out of me something terrible.

HI,

God I hope you're joking!

In my first career, as a piano player, I had to play the most awful c-r-a-p, but it was what people wanted, and they paid me good money for it.

In my second career as a children's entertainer the same applies. I hate listening to 'Pop Party' or 'Now' album CDs - but it's what children ask me for.

Evening is the time for my old Erroll Garner LPs or listening to Jazz on the radio. Or maybe a nice hour of Rachmaninov Piano Concertos!

I am a jazz nut, and I really do use contemporary jazz pieces in my shows and even in my kids shows. The kids love the magic and the music cause it is upbeat and fun. I love it cause it is different and makes my show unique, as no one uses the music I use.

HI,

Clearly kids are different in the states than the UK. I like all sorts of music but I would not force the poor kids to suffer it just because I like it.

Just ensure they are moving and swaying to the music, and you are right on cue.

Not about them not liking. The kids LOVE it. Why? Because the music is fun, and because it is the journey of the routine along with the music that makes the routine so much fun for them. Trust me, they are not bored in the least.
