Do you want to be known as the only choice, when it comes to entertaining folks at gatherings?
You must launch a non-stop campaign to create the perception that you are always in demand whenever anyone wants to know or see anything that relates to magic. Bear in mind that you must continually work at this to keep your name or face in the public eye whether it be locally or nationally. Just look to the recent attempts by David Copperfield to keep up with the Joneses aka David Blaine, as an example. Here are a few suggestions for your publicity campaign; 1. Take action on Press Release / Feature story suggestions, as offered in Tips 1 & 2. 2. Offer, (key word here) brief FREE demonstrations of your work at Fairs, museums, exhibits, local zoos, charitable events, amusement parks, poker runs, openhouses, award ceremonies, grand openings, etc.... 3. Start teaching a magic course at the local recreation center or community center. The most ideal is to teach it at a community college or university. 4. Establish an award ceremony of sorts and invite folks to submit their choice. Be sure to send out press releases for the event. Give away a magic related item such as a simple trick or even perhaps one Free magic class to the course that you started as offered in suggestion no. 3. 5. Become a community activist! 6. Make an appearance at your local magic shoppe and arrive as a celebrity guest speaker for your lecture or show. You must first establish a rapport with your local shoppe to make this happen. Offer to send the shoppe your audience members from any of your events. In exchange the shoppe will offer a discount to those folks that you send their way. 7. Take a survey in your area and find out if there is a ring or assembly. If not, ask the national office for a list of it's members whom reside in your area. Once you have this list contact the members and find out the potential for petitioning to recieve a local charterhood. Once you have established a charterhood tell everyone who is interested in magic to come out as a guest. Keep stressing the fact that magic is alive and well in your community. You can position yourself as the point of contact for any magic related topics or discussions to the public and to the local magicians. Be sincere in your efforts to propagate an interest in magic! Do not use this as a self serving means to line your pockets! Magic Education First! the rest will take care of itself. 8. Create the best looking flyer that you can afford and (key word headed your way) with permission, place them on bulletin boards located in shopping centres, grocery stores, laundromats, libraries, fitness centres, church grounds, schools, zoos, medical offices, car repair facilities. Use your imagination and keep your eyes open to any new areas where you might spread your service message. 9. Give a short talk at a social club or business organization. 10. Give a brief lecture about magic at a dinner or monthly meeting. It could also be for a seminar, tradeshow, or convention. 11. Conduct a workshop for new students of magic at Lowes or Home Depot. They love these events on Saturday mornings. These are paid by the company and not the students who are potential shoppers of these home improvement stores. 12. Participate at a school career day. 13. Visit each and every car dealer in town and make an appointment for a very brief visit with the marketing director or general manager. During your scheduled appointment you can make them aware of your services. You are essentially paid to babysit whilst the dealer gives the pitch or tries to finance the buyer. Often times I was given a brief visit on the spot. One thing to note. Make sure that you dress to impress. Don't show up with your raggedy saturday kids party costume and dirty nails, clean shoes, etc.... These are just a few examples of how you can take ACTION at this very moment to jump start an awareness of what you are offering locally by way of your magic performance. The best thing about this is that most of them cost absolutely nothing to implement, but your time and fuel costs. Having said that, "What are you waiting for?" "Get out there and "Kick Butt" I mean "Kiss Butt"! Signed, I don't have a FREE Newsletter so don't ask! |
