Entertainers who tour or travel long distances to perform have referred to themselves at times as Road Warriors. While driving home from a show today, I thought it could be interesting to share some of these travelling stories with each other. So here comes one:

Last night we were performing at a casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Since this show was about 300 kilometres (or just under 200 miles) from home, we decided to spend the night there and travel home the next morning. Being January in Canada, we had a winter storm over night that lasted well into the next day. What is normally a 2 1/2 hour trip turned into a 6 hour test of nerves. There was precipitation the entire way; rain, freezing rain, ice pellets and snow. The highways were never clear and sometimes the snow would be high enough to scrape the bottom of your car, or your tires would lose their grip on "black ice." Large trucks (lorries) would ride your rear bumper or blind you with spray if they passed you (or you passed them). Every few kilometres there would be an accident or some vehicle in the ditch or turned around on the shoulder of the road. Police and tow trucks were out in full force, as were the snow plows and sander/salter trucks. When we finally got home, we unloaded the car and made supper as normal. It was afterall, a typical day in the life.
