This is one of my absolute favorite books on card magic. Nick Trost is known for his easy to do brand of card magic, and this book is full of top notch material for the budding card worker. If you are a beginner past the elementary level and have learned to double lift and control a card, this book would be a great next step and will keep you busy for a long time. The appendix of sleights and subtleties at the end makes it perfect for beginners.
Any other fans of this book? What are your favorite tricks? |

Its a great book. lots of marketed tricks available here like 8 card brainwave, trick kards, etc. I believe the book is out of print now too so some might want to get it while its still available.

L&L still has it listed in their 2005 catalog.
It's funny how many people mention "Trick Cards". It's my favorite effect in the book and the first one I learned when I got it. |

The two pages of his handling of Reset should be bronzed, shellacked, plated and hung on the wall of all magicians. Talk about simplicity of motion and reducing unnecessary movements to their minimum!
Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Tommy Emmanuel are all you need to study to learn to play guitar.

I totally agree Thumbslinger! Trost on Reset is a real classic. It really makes you wonder why he does not get the respect and notoriety of,say Ed Marlo.

The Trost book is actually my favorite card book. Try some of these gems out,
1 - Matched Picture Crads - pg 49 2 - Seven Card Draw Prediction - pg 123 3 - Subtle Location ( Gilbreath ) - pg 137 4 - Intuition - pg 161 5 - Reset - pg 172 6 - Nick's Stranger in Paradise - pg 189 Let me know what you think. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Does "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" (1997) have easier or better content than the volumes in his later "Subtle Card Creations" (2008 onwards)?
Or are they basically just more of the same thing, and could "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" really be considered "Subtle Card Creations, Vol 0.5" |

There is so much stuff in these books that it is inevitable that you'll find a few good thins and lotsa inferior, impractical material. In particular I usually don't care about tricks/routines that require set-up, special cards, duplicates and so on. And in these books you'll find many many of these kind of tricks. This said, "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" is the best one of the three I have, in my opinion. Despite what I said above, "Technicolour Change" is one of my favourites (it uses a deck specially made for the trick) and "Trost on Reset" is a piece I use in a routine that begins with "Day Trippers" from Card College #4 page 857. Always from "The Card Magic of Nick Trost", "The Observation Test", the "10 or 18 card poker routines", "Automatic Lie Speller" (beautiful routine that uses Si-Stebbins stack - doesn't work in Italian unfortunately .... but that's not your problem), plus a few of the packet tricks and one or two of the ESP tricks are particularily good. PM me if you wish further details Mark |

Unfortunately hard copies of "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" sell for $100-200 these days, since it's out of print and difficult to get hold of.
It's worth sharing that llepub.com is sells an official e-book version (in searchable PDF format), and right now it is priced at only $10 (less than half the usual price). I picked up a copy and am quite pleased with how it works. https://llepub.com/index.php?main_page=p......ts_id=13 |

Hi Mark,
Like you I love The Card Magic of Nick Trost, though I don't currently perform any tricks from it. And I appreciate the comments you make from time to time about routining (e. g., doing Trost on Reset with Daytrippers.) See you, Bob |

I've been looking for a hard copy of The Card Magic of Nick Trost for a while now with no luck. Is the ebook available anywhere now that L&L is gone? From a Google search I found a couple of websites selling it for $3, but I'm not sure if they're legitimate.

Why doesn't Murphy's (who took over L&L) have it? Maybe the license for the e-book expired? Why else not make it available, since it doesn't take up warehouse space? |
