Basically what the title says. I'd like to get a book (or lecture notes, pamphlet, dvd, whatever) that includes paper balls over the head. Any suggestions?

Well, about a DVD - Tom Mullica - Expert Impromptu Magic made easy vol. 16.
Besides that, I would recommend to get as much as you can from this great and hilarious magician. Cheers |

Book: Stars of Magic. A well written chapter on Slydini's paper balls over the head. May be more than one volume, I only have the one. Lot of good stuff.

Book: The Annotated Magi of Slydini, a great book. Learn all the stuff from the master himself.

I have Tony Clark's paper balls over the head VHS and it is a good video!

Greg Wilson's on the spot is a good reference for paper balls over the head. He's hilarious in the performance and extremely witty in his explanation. He teaches you the misdirection and the timing and you can see for yourself how he was nearly caught during the performance and how he covers it up.

For another brilliant routine inspired by Paper Balls Over The Head, look for Steve Bedwell's pamphlet In Over Your Head, an hilarious cut-and-restored rope routine.

Gee Bill. There you go spilling the beans.
Yes, on Bill's recommendation I picked up this routine a few weeks ago and it is great. Beyond great, actually. And for several reasons. Steve B. obviously takes a rope routine to the next level of entertainment. And, in the writeup on the routine are some good notes on acting and comedy theory and how he puts routines together. I was very glad to read it. It certainly has changed how I think about putting together a stand-up routine or even a whole show. If anyone wants it and has a hard time finding it at their local magic shop, let me know.

Tony Clark's video is really good. It's not just step A do this, step B now do this, but it goes into the psychology of why the trick works, how to make it fit your style, and even how to adapt it to a kid routine. There are some good suggestions here and if you want to learn to do this, I say get several sources and see how they all treat the same trick.

Where to get paper balls over the head?
I grow my own paper balls. They are a little small this year because of the cold. If you plant post-it notes around April you should have a nice crop by the fourth of July. If you plnat them on the top of the hill they should be over your head too. Signed An Old Farm Boy Posted: Jan 19, 2005 12:58am -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Bedwell's "in over your head" is a great ropes over your head routine.

The BEST performer I have seen doing it is Armando Lucero.

Remember, before selecting a spectator to tell the audience you are going to perform the famous paper balls over the head trick. : )

When I first read this I thought, "You know the name, you know the trick. If you can call it that." I still kind of think that about the name IMO. But I remembered doing that trick to a guy who was hitting on a friend of mine. Man he was gruff when he saw what happened. But it was an all time favorite reaction of mine, it still kills with kids and adults when the time is right. Learn it, but also practice running in the shoes you do magic in. I learned it from my brother, so I don't know where you can go other than what has been said already.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Gregory Wilsn's On the Spot is great! You also get to learn a lot more impromptu magic besides the paper balls over the head.

Steve Spill's Video Scrapbook has an extraordinary version.
It's extraordinary because it is performed by Spill and Bob Sheets. |
