I don usually take note of how long I use my decks. I jus change them when they are too bent or start to clump together. However, I noticed that decks that are left alone for too long in humid areas tend to harder abit and can be used again.
cards that are too worn I usually use them to practise card manipulation, montes and mercury fold. T&R is also another effect which I used them to practise with. Cheerios

I buy the 2-pack of Bicycle Poker-size. One red and one blue. They last me about three months.

The REAL question is what to do with your coins when they get worn.

Some good advice I got from Dan Strange is to buy a dozen or two dozen decks and number them. When practicing a new sleight or effect start with #1. As soon as a change in the feel of the cards is noticed switch to deck 2. keep this up through the decks. You can repeat through many times. The advantage to this is the consistancy of the cards as you practice. eventually you have practiced with cards in a range of conditions. I hope this is helpful to someone.

I go throught too many decks in too little time. I'm a sucker for fresh decks. I open up one every 3-4 days. But I also perform dozens of tricks a night and let those grubby spectators fondle my pasteboards, so that accounts for it.

I buy them in bulk and use a new one each gig. I laso open a new one each morning. I just love the way a new deck handles!

I've been using the same deck for the last 7 months. It works good. I don't think you should use a new deck unless it breaks or something.

Grubby spectators??? Ha-ha-ha!!!
I buy in bulk, too. I have gone through as many as 3 decks a night in heavy restaurant work. I give away all signed cards, I do card on ceiling, I do T&R card, and I have folded cards end up in the card box. Even though I consider a deck of cards to be a hunk of painted cardboard that helps me pay the mortgage, I often will save a couple bucks by combining parts of "thin" decks in order to make up the volume of a full deck. I'm sure this will strike some of you as odd. My reason is simple: I am only concerned with a signed card. I stress to the spectator that their signature is the most important part of the trick. "There may be a hundred thousand cards in this town that are the three of clubs (or whatever), but only one with YOUR name on it." This not only makes the trick more relevant to the spectator, it also covers my rear in the event a duplicate accidentally pops up at an inopportune moment. "Look! There's one now! But it doesn't have your name on it... it must be a secret spy trying to masquerade as your card!!! We caught you, you scoundrel!!!" That's just an example. It makes me insane to see a magician have a card selected to be signed and I notice that many, many of the cards have signatures on them. GIVE THOSE CARDS TO THE PEOPLE THAT SIGNED THEM!!! They may leave them on the table when they go home, but then again, I've had people show me cards they've kept in their purses and wallets for as much as 10 years!!! That's darn good advertising! Sometimes people are shy and think that your deck is now ruined. I love to kid with these people. "You keep it. I need all the tax deductions I can get." Now this is really only in regard to decks that I use where the cards are given away or destroyed in the processes. For full deck routines or tricks like Triumph, when I need a deck that performs like a machine, I will keep those decks in as good of condition as I can. Deck life in those cases is dependant upon frequency of use, working conditions, etc. Humidity in the South can trash a deck in less than an hour. When 52 separate objects start performing like 4 concrete blocks, it's time to crack a new deck seal.

When I open a new factory sealed deck (the Standard Bicycle cards), they usually last for one month from my everyday use. I replace them when the cards become too soft and when the edges become clearly dirty.
I never buy in bulk because money is an issue for me (I'm a struggling magician), so as long as my deck is useable I use it. For all the card fanatics out there I have a little secret I'd like to share with you. I don't now if it has been discussd previously. Gather those little things inside food packets and medicine bottles, the one that has a label "do not eat" (it looks like a small white packet that usually says silica gel keep away from children), put them around your open sticky cards after each use and leave it overnight. This prevents your cards to gather up moisture and it prevents your cards to be sticky. If there is nothing to stick on then there is nothing dirt will attach to since that little packet thingies gather moisture. Just wanted to share something.

I got mine from 'hocus pocus' in Arnold, Nottingham, he's in the yellow pages. He's local to me so I went round to see him, but I bet he'd post some if you asked. I paid £1.50 per pack. (I got 4) >I never buy in bulk because money is an issue for me It's good to know that I'm not the only one who can't afford magic. I spent £40 on magic at Christmas and that was a big spend for me. I always used to use bridge cards, as I had never seen poker cards until I was 33! I now use both sizes. I have 4 Bike poker decks, and lots of bridge decks. The bridge cards I use are £1 for 4 decks! I'd never play with them but they are find for ambitions card (signed), card in celing, mercury card folds and other tricks that destroy them. They are no good for fanning/flurishes though. I buy new cards when I need them, usually because I've either run out.

http://www.penguinmagic.com are pretty cheap for bikes and also bees, but people seem to bulk buy from them so it's hard to find them 'in stock'.
I've been told that 'bicycle' now do 'pink and 'pale blue' backed cards. Has anyone come across these? Do you know where you can purchase them? Dizzy |

I buy at least 4 decks of cards or more at a time so I won't have to run to the store every time I wear my deck out. Once all the decks are used up, I go and buy some more. For cards, I only make about 1 trip to the store every few months.
