Before you even draw another breath, get yourself a copy of a book called "Impro", by Keith Johnstone.

OK, maybe that was bad advice. Keep breathing, but get the book anyway. It will encourage you to think on your feet, which is probably the most important aspect of any performance form. It should be available at Amazon.

Depending on how 'theatrical' you want to be, I'd advise you to have a look at "The Empty Space" by Peter Brook. It's more of a director's book than a list of acting exercises, but it will help you to think in terms of staging, and as a magician/mentalist you are your own director/writer as well as an actor. I'd recommend it to anybody. Excellent, thought-provoking stuff.

Also, if you really want some insight into the classic "method", purchase Constantine Stanislavski's 'An Actor Prepares'; in the world of theatre (my home) it is considered the bible of method acting. There's also Lee Strasburg's New School Method, but for the nuts and bolts, go with Stan. Hope this helps.
