I own most of the link effects (I'm into ripping cards up - what can I say!). Linkage (both versions) and Hypercards are different methods.
You will kick yourself with Hypercards' method; I bought it on the strength of the demo and the ad that said no gimmicks, I thought "no way" - bugger me - it doesn't use gimmicks! I really like it - the thinking is off the wall (as with a lot of Andrew's effects), it looks good and its easy to do. Linkage is great too - under different circumstances (Hypercards is totally impromptu - you don't need anything other than the two ungaffed cards.) Linkage needs something extra. To my mind Sixten Beme's one card link is THE ultimate linking effect - but boy you need to put the work in for the gimmicks. In conclusion if I've got LOTS of prep time I go with Sixten, if I've got a couple of minutes I'd go with Linkage or Hypercards - (Hypercards is taking over as my favourite quicky as it is *totally* impromptu). Hope that helps... - Paulie. |

I watched the demo and yes, although it looks pretty clean, the linked cards look rather still and stagnant.
Doesn't really sell it to me that they're linked. I quite prefer Harris' 'Immaculate Connection', looks great, is impromptu and is pretty darn visual. But to each his own. Take care fellas, Logan

Logan,
Can you describe the difference between Harris' Immaculate Connection vs Cardboard Connection? I have Cardboard Connection. Is one an improvement over the other? Nicholas |

Nicholas,
Both said card-linking routines are in AoA Vol. 2. If I recall correctly, Cardboard Connection is the linking of 2 cards only but isn't as open as Immaculate Connection. With Immaculate Connection, there is a lot more freedom of movement. Check out the demo of it here: http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=558 You be the judge Take care bud, Logan

Logan,
I got my Cardboard Connection in booklet form as an individual item. I didn't know that both were in AoA 2. I did look at that demo video. You are correct about the difference. I'm impressed! I like Immaculate Connection much better than Cardboard Connection. I can see that it is done by the same basic principle, but I love the way all three cards are allowed to be shown while still accomplishing the illusion of linked cards. Plus, there's the ripped and restored part as a bonus. Thanks for providing the link to that video! |

On the subject of Immaculate Connection - Stephen Tucker in the UK has a neat twist on the effect "The Missing Link" that whilst requiring a couple of seconds of setup (obviously PH's version doesn't require any) does make the initial handling of getting the cards linked an absolute doddle.
I think he sells it for $10 or so. Just another one to add to your arsenal... Best wishes, - Paulie. |

I've just purchased Andrew Mayne's "Hypercards" from Magic Market
http://www.magicmarket.co.uk It was a very wise £10.99 purchase. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with this. The layout of the DVD is faultless. Andrew's instruction is first class and he even talks about presentation in close-up situations. No stone left unturned. A big thumbs up from me - go buy it! |

I also have the stephen tucker version and it is very good. I have the hypercards dvd and I think it is great! Its one of those effects where the method is better than the trick. I have performed it a couple of times and it fools them. I think the display when the cards are linked is a lot "cleaner" looking than in immaculate connection as you are only holing it with one hand. It gets my vote!!!

Wow! Andrew Mayne has come up with a winner in Hypercards. His objectives were to come up with a linking card effect that was visual, impromptu, and easy to do... and boy has he succeeded!
I have linked thousands of cards via Paul Harris's Immaculate Connection (IC) and now I have a wonderful alternative for those times when the full routine of IC just doesn't fit the occasion. Hypercards is a great, stand alone, quick, visual linking of two cards. The aestetics are very different from IC which makes Hypercards that much more useful. The fact that Hypercards is completely impromptu is also very important to me. Get two cards and you are ready to roll. This means you can carry it in your wallet and be ready at the drop of a hat. The link displays build in visual impact which makes for good theater and helps to draw in the attention of your audience while dispelling their assumptions. Just when they are about to jump you for your cards, you hand them over. There is nothing, they will find. Andrew Mayne's Hypercards is a wonderful addition to any card linker's arsenal, and a great place to start if you have no experience but are thinking of linking. I see there have been some questions as to where to find this, but rest assured now that it is being distributed through Murphy's Magic Supplies, it is easily available from your favorite dealer. If they don't have it, just tell them to contact Murphy's at http://www.murphysmagicsupplies.com |

It seems from the demo that the method is something similar to Ghost Bills. Not that it's a bad thing, I was just curious.

Can any of the linked card tricks be used with business cards? I'm doing a trade show and thought it would be a cool way to go.

Tom, Thanks so much for the review. I had the same thought that Redstreak had (regarding Ghostbills similarities). I'm glad that it is not the same as ghostbills, just remarketed. That makes me feel better about purchasing it.
