Surfing Ebay tonight, I found an early candidate for one of the worst Houdini autographs for 2005. I usually find 2-3 a week there, but this one is exceptional. If you find it, please don't have food or drink in your mouth when viewing.

Well I didn't get to see that one, but I've seen some doozies on e-bay. I've collected autographs for years, and most of what I see on e-bay is obviously fake. If something will readidly sell whole sale for $300 and ebay opens it with a .99 bid, you can bet it is fake. Autographs are a risky business unless you get them from known verifiable sources, reputable dealers (who are going to charge you a pretty penny), or you get them yourself. The latter is the best, but then , of course for dead people that is a bit hard. You can also expect that the more popular an autograph is and the more expensive it is, the more fakes there are going to be. On e-bay, simply presume it is 99.99% chance of being fake. Legitimate dealers have their own auctions to sell at that bring higher prices.

I'll go with about 85% as fake on Ebay. I picked up a beauty a few weeks ago.
There is a a real questionable on there now. 3 giveaways as being a phony are low price, hidden id's and clipped signatures. Now for the rub. I have bought items that were glued down on cardboard, only to find Houdini handwritting underneath after being seperated.
